I'm in the National Guard and will most likely be deploying within the next year, I have an ASH-1, but it's a little heavier and stouter than I was thinking. I am looking for a second Busse to take with me, something a little more dagger like, any suggestions would be helpfull, Joel

You NEVER bring a knife to a gun fight! :)

Smoke'em when you see them ;):D

But perhaps a BATAC would do.... for smaller cutting purposes.

Once you find out what you want, if you can't get one on the Exchange, you might call the shop and let them know about your deploy date. They may be able to help you out with the knife if it's a more recent production model.

I plan on taking my jack hammer to Afghan next year..... It is a great blade for all kind of things.

Whatever you bring - be careful and toast anyone that becomes a problem

The SAR5 and BATAC are about 5.5 inches... and both can be had fairly affordably lately on the exchange. The SAR 5 is about an inch shorter (lengthwise) than the BATAC despite the same blade length due to the lack of choil on the SAR5.

I think either would serve you well.

batac, Hr, Sar, Jack. all good choices. my son carries a batac on his vest and has a ash in his sack. he sent his hogfsh home fearing it would be stolen or confiscated. but he loves the batac says its perfect for anything he needs and also i dont know about your CO. but my sons says that the blade cant be over 6 or 6.5 inches because they dont want to scare the locals. lol. anyways all of these blades are great i would go look at all of them and then pick one you like.

I agree with most of the above (minus the Hacksaw!) but would also suggest a Swamp Rat Ratmandu. In the size category you are talking, cheap on the exchange right now, and one of the most handy blades in the Busse family. Much more bang for the buck and performance for size/weight in this category.

Get one of the latest BATAC's or something not irreplaceable that you won't mind losing too much. Also, get something that won't attract undue attention from thieves, officers, and snipers and that won't impede you from using your primary weapon. Good luck over there.

+1 on the Ratmandu, it will do it all and has a great shape/size for a fighter. That being said the hellrazor and jackhammers look incredible.
