best knife for iraq

I really like Hell Razors, but under the circumstances, one of these might be more appropriate:

For the intimidation factor, an American Tomahawk.

Just to have by your side, probably the Skinny ASH1 that's readily available the the BCS.

SkinnyASH, Satin Jack as primary out on the town knives ;) and either a Lean Mean or a GOOD folder os a FOB blade. Depending, on your M.O.S. and how often you go outside the wire would dictate the "need" for your blade. Just my .02 worth. What the hell do I know about Iraq? :D

Skinny ASH-1s are a great choice. However, since you've already got an ASH, I've read very positive responses from deployed servicemen about ADs -- if you want the capability to use it as a mini-prybar, go with a standard AD (there's a reason they were 'ganza Military Overruns -- they're tough, hard use little knives). If you you are going to exercise some care with it and want an outstanding slicer, then a coyote/black G-10 BAD from the company store would be perfect.

Here's a reference to a similar thread with many of the same responses:
Best Busse for a Marine?

I would pick a sarsquatch. They're easy to find and have a good price. But what Busse you will choose, they all will serve you well.

Thanks for serving and stay safe!

I second the Sarsquatch, price-wise, availability, size and comfort. That and a Leatherman Wave or a similar multitool:thumbup: Thanks you for your service, stay safe.

Like a previous poster mentioned, a lot depends on your MOS and how often you will be going outside the "wire". I am currently in Afghanistan and I have a BATAC, Jackhammer, and Game Warden. I rarely go outside the wire so the Game Warden has been sufficent for my needs. I wish you well on your upcoming deployment.

What about a SJTAC or HR with the spine or swedge sharpened up so you have 1 and a half edges. Not quite a double edged dagger but it would allow you to batton on the unsharpened portion and also allow the use of that portion to put your hand on if you need to power assist a cut for any reason.

As a marine my first choice is the HR and my backup is the War Boar. Not met anyone yet who hasn't tried to buy or trade them from me. Different styles of fighting but the War Boar comes in very handy if you are in a MOUT environment.

SJTAC is my favourite all time user ! I've owned several and this is one I would never sell or trade !!

There are some pretty good suggestions up here. Personally I would go with a Scrap Yard SOD if only for the price. Losing or having a knife stolen that is $100.00 is a lot easier to stomach than one that costs $300.00.

Like others have said, what job are you going to be doing? Don't be the fobbit walking around with an 18inch blade dangling from your duece gear!

My first two tours I carried a original Satin Jack. It served me well. I carried a Scrapper 6 on my third. I am leaving for my fourth in about 6 months and I'll probably carry the scrapper 6 again. It's super easy to resharpen and doesn't look expensive.

The Son of Dogfather is still up at the Scrap yard store. Great price, would make a great knife (although that length might be a tad more than you were looking for). One great thing about them, which has been mentioned is they don't look flashy or really expensive. But they are hell for strong and available right now for about 150 less than infi.
Many good suggestions already posted.
I think any Infi (or Scrap yard or SwampRAT) you pick will serve you well.

Pretty much what everyone has said, with the addition of a Mean Street. Easier to carry, more low profile, and better for most utility tasks. If you want to go with a big/small combo, you could go with any of the previously mentioned blades and pair with an Active Duty. There isn't a lot you couldn't handle with a Satin Jack/Active Duty/Multitool combo.

I much prefer my TAC Satin Jack to my TAC Badger
