Best knife value under $50

Buck 110 or 112 if you want a locking blade. Either will last several lifetimes.
For a slipjoint, Rough Rider is hard to beat.
LOW cost, good steel, hold an edge and easy to resharpen, LOTS of different patterns and handle materials to try without bankrupting the bank.
Based on the examples I have, they should last several lifetimes, as well.

Lots of good options. The value line of Spyderco is a great choice for a modern design with quality materials and construction. You can choose a model by size that you need which include the Tenacious, Persistance, and Ambitious. I've had lots of cheaper knives but these seem to be the best quality and still have a more modern design unlike knives like the Buck 110 which in my eyes has run its course in the style department. Wood handles with brass just seems way too antique looking now a days. For other suggestions you can check out the Onterio Rat 1 and Rat 2, again size differences to meet your preference. Now if you really want a great knife I would suggest save a bit more money and get yourself into a Spyderco Delica or Endura, both high quality and great steels an can be had for around the $65 range or even less if you watch the exchange here for a lightly used one. Or get into a Benchmade Griptilian or Mini Griptilian which are great knives and can be had for $89 new or once again watch the exchange for a lightly used one for around the $60-$70 range.

Lots of options in your price range and just above. I would really consider bumping your budget to under $100 though because you open up way more possibilities and the quality gets much better. All the knives under the $50 mark that I listed would probably serve you just fine, but get into the $80-$100 range and you can get a knife that's in a whole other league.

Most KaBar folders (Dozier, Piggyback, Mule, Baconmaker), Ontario (Utilitacs and RATs), Kershaws (Zing, Shallot, Skyline, Scallion, Oso Sweet, Amplitude, Chill, Link), SOGs (Flash I and II, Zilla, Twitch), Cold Steel AUS 8s (Voyager, Recon, ProLite, Tuff Lite, Lone Star Hunter), Buck (Spitfire, Bucklite), CRKT (Padoza, Drifter, Squid, Krawford Kasper), Spyderco and Byrd (Raven, Crow, Cara Cara, Tenacious, Resilience, Ambitious, Persistence, Meadowhawk), some SRM, ENLAN, Ganzo and HARNDS (Viper, Nyx), ESEE (Avispa, Zancudo)...
And then there's the classic ones: Victorinox, Opinel, Laguiole, Higonokami, Svord...
All these will prove valuable folders with good/standard steel and serviceable features/construction

Good Luck!

I recommend the Martinni Pelican. You can find it on Amazon between 30 and 40 dollars. Scandi grind made in Finland.

Modern, Ontario Rat in D2. For $35 you cant beat it. Maybe a Kershaw Skyline? For a traditional there are myriads of Case, Rough Rider, Queens, and Buck's to choose from. It really depends on your intended use

Kershaw Link. 420HC steel and it comes in a few different variations. One is bound to suit your needs.

Tanto or drop point blades, aluminum or FRN handles, stonewash or blackwash finish. All made in the USA.

recently picked up a Kershaw Clash for under $30. Very smooth flipper with decent steel. Seems well made and good value.

RealSteel H6 in any color variety. If you're cool with thumbstuds, G10 and liner lock, there are no better options under $50.

Just picked up a new Real Steel H6 S1 for $40 shipped.

Construction is excellent, blade perfectly centered, Sandvik 14c28n flat ground steel.
