Hey everyone!

I just bought a new Leatherman MUT and I am curious to know what you all think is the best Leatherman tool available today and why? Best can mean whatever you want it too...best overall, best value, best load out, etc. It's up to you how you want to define it!

Thanks!

Ahhhh, this is hard to break down because best has so many meanings depending on your needs.

Best overall, I'd say Charge TTi.
Best value, Rebar.
Jack of all trades, Wave.
Most capable but bulky, Surge.
Best for down 'n dirty jobs, ST300.

If it's going to be your go-to knife as well as multitool, I'd go with the Charge. If you also carry a dedicated folder, a Wave. The others are situational. I have... far more Leatherman tools than can be easily justified, but I pick and choose which one I carry depending on my needs for that day. More often than not, it's a Charge.

Skeletool CX for me. Has everything I want in a multitool - pliers, a decent 154CM blade, screwdrivers, and a bottle opener, and nothing I don't, which makes it much lighter than most leathermans.

The one I have been carrying and using for the past year or so is the Rebar.

It is the best one for my EDC needs so far.

I'd have to agree with the charge this being the best. Has never failed me and the s30v blade is just an added bonus

In my opinion the Wave is the most versatile and "best bang for the buck". It is far from perfect though.

I've tried most of them and for my money you can't beat the Original Supertool. I'ts big and beefy enough, has the most useful tools, (I do wish one side of the file was diamond coated but other than that I like it just the way it is. I even traded my Wave for the Supertool I liked it that much.

This is my problem with the Wave from an older post...

Has any one else had this problem? I just returned to work this week after 3 months off with knee surgery, and was using my Leather Wave,(at the time my favorite Multiplier, loved the rounded handles, and easy access to the blades and saw when closed)when I was using the pliers to try to remove a a locating pin in a piece of equipment I was working on.

I generally keep my index finger between the handles to facilitate opening and closing the plier jaws, while using it the Leatherman slipped and hit the ground, I picked it up and proceeded to squeeze the pliers to get a good grip on the locating pin, but what I didn't notice was that the straight blade had partially opened and as I began to squeeze the blade my forefinger was on the sharp side of the blade and I literally almost sheared the top 1" of my finger off, seein' as how I never use the blade it was still razor sharp. If you have one of these partially open the blade while the plies are open and you'll see how this is possible, I like my Leatherman, I just wish there was some kind of lock on the blades when closed, this never could have happened with my Super Tool.

For me, it's the Micra.

My EDC knife of the day rides in my RFP and my Micra always rides in my LFP with my money clip. I keep a larger Leatherman in my day pack (Blast) and keep a Wave in my barn for use in the shop. I prefer the Blast as a tool box replacement and prefer the outboard blade of the Wave for opening fertizler and junk that I won't open iwht my EDC knife.

But with the Micra in my pocket I almost never need to reach for a the full sized MT.

I wish, I wish, I wish that some of these companies would offer their multitools without a blade. I carry two knives already, I don't need a third cluttering up my multitool. I'd much rather have something else there, like a bit for sockets or something.

If I had the know how I think I'd start making custom multitools. I think there's a market, I just don't know how to do it. Order a bunch of different tools from some OEM factory and custom design the handles and put the tools in there per customer specs. Make it the smoothest most functional, more so than leatherman or Victorinox, and there'd be buyers. Hell, I would be if the price wasn't insane.

Give me something similar to a spyderwrench with needle nose pliers instead of the fat, curved pliers, take the blade out and make the flat head screwdriver one handed opening, and add in some kind of small pry tool, man, oh man, I'd buy one in a second.

For me it has to be the Charge tti. Considering I got it from REI for 126. It was a deal so I couldn't pass it up.

I would say the Skeletool but I require a can opener on my multi-tools.

Bodog,

The blade on my Blast has an unscheduled appointment with a Dremmel cut off wheel. It's on it's way to become an awl blade.

I'm guessing it's because I don't need to repair any machinery, but my little ps4 has served many many functions. I love how small it is in my pockets, to the point that I wash them a few times a week since I don't even know it's in the pocket.
I had a larger one long ago but gave it away to a friend in need.

Charge Tti. I also consider it best multitool overall available today.

Perfect choice of tools for the size, everything locks, and perfect placement of blades, outside, so you dont have to open the pliers. Top that with titanium (because multitools are heavy as f***) , a serrated blade with seatbelt / cord cutter AND a sweet s30v blade with amazing geometry.

It's what I have and EDC myself, but I'm not biased in the sense that I already saw it as the best before buying it, and I have handled and manipulated every single model Leatherman has. To top that, it's the multitool Tim Leatherman carries himself.

The p4 and Juice are in my mind close seconds. Cant beat them for their size. But overall Charge Tti.

My MUT stays on my belt when I'm in uniform. the WAVE lives in my car, or on my hip if I'm not in uniform. The MUT can handle a lot of abuse- but it all comes down to what you are most likely to use it for.

This is interesting to me. I have (and love) the Wave, but I don't really have experience with other Leatherman products. That Charge TTi looks fantastic though.

Charge TTi is my personal favorite. Wave gets my pick for best bang for the buck for overall functionality.

In my experience, and opinion:

Best for EDC in pocket, gifting, having laying around: Micra
Best for rough gardening tasks, field dirty work: ST300
Best for EDC in belt, all around tool, average Joe: Wave
Best for EDC in belt, heavy duty days and work: Surge
Best for Backpacking, hiking, "small problems": Squirt PS4
Best for SAK lovers, "want it all in one" people: Juice Pro/Juice XE6

I own all of them and can't recommend them enough!

Same, as far as one I'll actually carry goes. I use more capable multitools (a Wave, a Blast, a couple Rebar's, a Surge, etc.) in vehicles and stationed around the house, don't care much which ones they are as long as they're Leatherman, but the one I carry is the Skeletool CX, for exactly the reasons you said.

Bottle opener, accessible 154CM blade, screwdrivers, pliers, and it's thin, light, and has a pocket clip. I don't need anything else from a multitool on my person.

Funny, I'm the complete opposite. Wave is on my duty belt and MUT rides on my belt/in my pocket off duty. I really don't have a good reason why it's this way except I've had the Wave longer and it simply became a part of my uniform. I needed a Multitool for EDC, so my fiancé got me the MUT because she said it "seemed like me." I haven't really put it to the test yet, but so far it's been a fine EDC!
