Best Movie Musical Score

More people haven't voted for The Good, The Bad And The Ugly!! That is such a kickass theme!! And some of the James Bond films have had great sound tracks as well. Who can forget the Dr No theme, which is synonomous with Bond. But the Goldeneye soundtrack was great, through and through.

On a lighter note, at my brothers reception he and his new bride entered to the Star Wars theme! Classic entry, utterly memorable.

Cheers all, Acolyte.

The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Last of the Mohicans, Empire Strikes Back, just the theme from Once Upon a Time in America, and the Lord of the Rings movies.

My idiosyncratic (and incomplete) 'best movie soundtrack' list:

The Mission--Ennio Morricone
Last Temptation of Christ--Peter Gabriel
The Killing Fields--Mike Oldfield
Never Cry Wolf--Mark Isham
Empire of the Sun--John Williams

Aliens. Wonderful soundtrack. It's still used in many movie trailers before their own score is finished.

Where Eagles Dare. I love the way the drumming slowly fades up.

Yojimbo. It's used to such effect, melding in with the sound effects.

Chinpo

Gotta go with Braveheart on this one. My fav, and the one I listen to most.

Others:
Star Wars
Titanic
Lord of the Rings
Legends of the Fall
Rob Roy

In addition to all of the great ones listed here, I think "Chariots of Fire" had a fantastic soundtrack.

Legends of the Fall was nice also.

The soundtrack to "Collateral". The end seen (SCENE)where Jamie Fox is being chased in the train station...The music is awesome....makes ya a nervous wreck just listening to it...lots of percussion too.

Bridge Over the River Kwai
O' Brother Where Art Thou
Once Upon a Time in the West
Saturday Night Fever

For the diehard AC/DC fans out there, there's the soundtrack from Maximum Overdrive. Not the best Steven King film, but the music ROCKS!

I'm also partial to Alan Silvestri's works, particularly "Predator"

To my mind one of the best movie scores ever. It is almost Foley-like in the way it augments and enhances the action.

Gotta' add most of the work by Max Steiner: King Kong, Gone With the Wind, Casablanca

Bernard Herrmann for Vertigo and Psycho

That it does, that it does. Makes a mediocre movie; a lot better, much like the Conan music I mentioned earlier.

I always loved the score from the movie Hannibal. There are some scenes where it is very subtle, yet powerful, such as the final scene, a minute or two before he cuts off his hand.

And even though I'm sure to catch some flack for it, I like the theme score from Brokeback Mountain. It's called "The Wings" I believe.

The soundtrack for Heat is another I'd love to pick up.

I also loved the soundtrack to The Departed.
