Best Multitool...

I like leatherman, Between the model i have had that i like is my skeletool, i just received it so time will tell if i like it the best.

I've been EDCing a Leatherman Super Tool 300 since they came out and it's proven to be my favorite. The pliers and all the tools are stout as hell, but it's big and heavy.

Before that it was a SOG Powerlock, which is still a very good tool, but the ST300 is just stronger. The impliments of the Powerlock are pretty thin, and if you don't watch out you might snap one (I speak from experience..)

That said, sometimes nothing beats a nice pair of locking pliers.

I have a Leatherman PST that's 20 years old. I've also owned a set of Gerber Multipliers, but that thing was a persistent hand-biter (pliers lock) so I got rid of it long ago.

I'm sure there is a lot of improvement in 20 years, but IMHO, something that has been through everything I've dragged this through deserves props.

Best for what application?

I have many but weight and functionality changes criteria. I carry a Juice on me daily, but have probably 5 or 6 others, each kind of different.

The best one is the one that is there when you need it.

Leatherman Wave is just great IMO. I like the SOG though ,still might get one for the glove box of the fourby.
I have a SAK soldier which i like heaps also.

I've have a two Leatherman Supertools, one Leatherman Wave and was gifted a Gerber 600 with the Carbide cutter. I've handeled the SOG but never owned one.

I've always liked the Leatherman the most mainly because the Gerber's handles close completely and have given me plenty of blood blisters when I've slipped off of a nut for example. The Leatherman's handles don't come together and that is the main advantage to me.

Otherwise I would take any of the big names over nothing at all.

I've used a Victorinox Swisstool Spirit for years and it's done everything I've asked it to do.

I really like my SOG powerlock. My only issue with it is I wish it was easier to manipulate with one hand when using the pliers, but I'm sure that would sacrifice some of its strength. Otherwise, it's great.

I've been using a Leatherman wave since they became available. (late '90's early '00's?)

Best for what application

Thats the question. Need replaceable cutters? The Supertool 300 is "best". Need scissors? The Supertool 300 is not the best - no scissors. You basically have to flowchart it out.

And then factor in subjectivity, which trumps just about everything.

I just watched Inception, so my brain is like a cat chasing its tail.

Have owned many Leathermans, love them. Currently use a Vic tool, a LM wave, and a skeletool.

I recently contacted Leatherman and asked what their best selling tool was. The two word response was "The Wave".
