best of the best "tactical" knives

Hello, i'm new here and wanted know what everyone here thinks are the best of the " tactical " style of knives (i.e. no leather, wood, or anything that was once apart of a living creature, that is unless theoretically speaking someone dropped a high power magnet into a huge vat of cow's blood and used the iron mixed with cow bone ashes to make a steel knife, which is unlikely). I wanted to know because i'm a fan of the opposite (leather grip kabars, bowies and, m1903's) and wanted to know if they present a significant advantage that warrants the usual $300+ price tag for 6 inches of steel and plastic. im looking for things like small daggers, combat knives, bowies, machetes, etc.

Welllll that leaves me mostly out since I don't have but one machete, not really into daggers and think "combat knife" can be a bit of a misnomer at times.... but I will say someone should research whether steel mixed with cow bone and ashes could be strong or create interesting patterns. ;)

I think a lot of the sort of fixed blades you are referring to above are great finds for waaaaay less than $300 though, honestly. A few models from Ontario and Becker come to mind for less than $100.

Honestly when it comes to the "Tactical" knives you speak of, in my own opinion, past a certain price point move beyond functionality of materials used to the name associated with it and the level of quality control. For example i've held and used both a ZT 0560 and a Hinderer XM-18, do I think one is functionally better than the other? No. Do I believe one is of better quality with fit and finish standards? yes being that the Hinderer is made by hand whereas the 0560 is made for mass production. In the end it all comes down to what you believe is the best for your own utility. If a leather grip Ka-bar is what tickles your fancy and meets your needs then you don't rightly need that Dalibor sharpened pocket anchor.

EDIT: finally read your question to the full extent, my hat goes in for the zt 0566, it's a great mix of edc ability and hard use folder plus its one of the most buttery smooth knives I have ever de-assisted!

Check out Gravelle Knives... His Field Knife (FK) in small Med and large is a hell of a knife.

wow, honestly i didn't think they would be as cheap as other knives i bought before. not that i'm gonna go and impulse buy 20 new knives and swords or anything but all i ever saw were things like the lhr, miller bros blades, etc.

Cold Steel.
I know from experience, dude. I have been on many missions. Late at night. (Mostly to 7-11.)

Check out http://www.coldsteel.com/. They actually do have some interesting and popular designs, and the super-strong triad lock, though they're often knocked for employing AUS-8 steel which is OK but not great by current standards.

^Can't speak from experience; haven't acquired a Cold Steel yet. (Except for the fixed tanto I "borrowed" from my father some years ago.)

I think this guy has said it well. So it really boils down to what you like/want and how much you are comfortable to spend. They are all knives and they cut stuff, everything after that is up to you for what you want to pay for :D

I wouldn't buy a Cold Steel knife. Although they are functional, Lynn Thompson blasted Mick Strider for being a phony, charging too much for his knives, and then copied Mick's design! No integrity, no honour.

Personal feelings aside Cold steel makes a functional strong knife that can easily be brought back to the hair popping sharpness it had when you bought it.

That's interesting. I'm curious, do you know the whole story here? Do you know what Mick Strider did?
Lynn feels very strongly about Strider's deception of the knife buying public and of the industry as a whole. He feels like the entire knife industry should have blacklisted him for their actions.
In Lynn's words, the release of the knife in question "was a punishment to Strider for his lies!"
You'll find that it was Lynn's integrity and honor that led to this.
There is a lot more to this story than has ever been released to the public.
I'm not going to dig up a years-old topic, and I'm not going to get into an argument here, but trust me, I work with Lynn every day and I've known him for many years.
I'm new to this forum but I'm not new to the industry.
Lynn's a good guy

Thank you for speaking up, but lets get this back on topic :)
If your looking for a more upscale higher end knife you can't go wrong with a Grayman they are tanks!

Bladeforums.com=/=Youtube.com comments section.

also since i mentioned the 1917 series of blades on this thread, and currently holding a slightly disappointing bowie... why does my sheath leave behind goo on my blade? why did it chip on a branch and why doesn't it have a edge? I'm american, my first bowie shouldn't make me want a wakazashi. the only thing sharp on it is the tip but even when i stabbed myself with it while slicing through old boxes all i had to do was chew up paper and spit in the wound to make the bleeding stop! what am i supposed to do when attacked by apache death squads, vaquero cattle thieves, or bears? The only dependable knife i have is my Kabar. Also why don't you make a man at arms scottish dirk?

Sorry teach, I fell asleep. What was the question?

Let me get you back up to speed:

OP wants ninja knife.
Guy 1 suggest CS.
Guy 2 says Lynn Thompson is a jerk.
CS Rep replies "My boss totally is not a jerk!"
OP responds to CS Rep who wan't talking to him.

I think that's about it.

Hmmmm.... Lmao! Thanks for the update!

I'll be hiding at the back of the class with my shades on.....

If he settles on a ninja special for all his day to day tactical operations, lemme know!

^I fly with pre wwII north american blades day to day this is just something i wanted to understand.

I disagree with you but I am impressed by the guts it took to post in this topic

BUT, back on topic. I'm no fan of Cold Steel and I'm not a fan of tactical knives, but I will say that they make tactical knives much better than other companies at the same price or cheaper.

I recommend the Cold Steel Recon 1 for a folding "tactical" blade
