Best of the small Spydies?

That baby Goddard sure looks nice. How easy are they to get/find?

If the Goddard or Ladybug's OK, then I definitely suggest looking at the micro Dyad.

Judging from the previous pic, the Kiwi sure seems like an excellent choice (Never had nor handled one). I still think the Dragonfly's an excellent all around choice, though, especially since you can get it in G-10.

Good luck with your choice.

The Kopa's are very nice, but they are heavy for their size.

If you like the Sages, check out its new little brothers: C129 Cat (2-7/16" blade) and C130 Chicago (2" blade):

I would say the ZDP 189 Walker.
The most cutting power to weight ratio of the bunch!
Very neat knife. Have used one quite a bit this year.
Great super thin blade. Light as a feather.

I seldom use small blades, but do enjoy picking them up!
The Sprint Baby Goddard is nice, one showed up this week. No photos yet.
Let me know if you would like any comparison pic's.
Have a few more than in the photo below.....

The UKPKs are awesome. I think the Native deserves a mention, as it is often overlooked in favor of the Delica.

And why not a DODO!? :)

hey elkins,
all of the knives mentioned are great suggestions, but let me make one more.
although small (ladybug sized), the baby goddard is a very elegant and useful knife.

good luck in your quest!

I would vote Dragonfly as well. I have an SS version right now that I like. Waiting for the DF2 to come out.

BTW, great taste in song ( Django ) and guitar picks!! Love the ultex sharps.

VG10/carbon fiber Kiwi or G10 Dragonfly would get my vote. Or if you want to go economy, I can't say enough good things about the Ladybug. I'd never have thought a keychain knife would be so useful.

I love the Rookie, and your standard of a small knife is bigger than mine, so it. :) At about the same handle size, the byrd Wings Slipit is very nice.

The Lava is another favorite, and comes up frequently on the secondhand market.

For the really small ones, I like the byrd Finch's handle better than the Ladybug's - it allows for a bit more of a grip.

I'm going to go with the Lava as my first choice and the Ti Salsa as a close second. The Salsas are like little big knives in my opinion.

I have a g10 delica, and foliage ukpk drop point...they are great small carry knives. The g10 dragonfly is amazing from what ive heard. Check out this vid by spydercollector http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5r3bnUZlXs

Ive been wanting to get a sage 1 because the carbon fiber looks fantastic. Right now, trying to pick up a caly 3 CF, or some of the other Spyderco CF knives would be a good idea for things like office use. g10 tends to just look tacky with slacks. You could pick up a ukpk in carbon fiber. That would be the best of both worlds. locking knives tend to not be quite as gentleman-like, so having a slippie CF would be a plus. Classy but practical. And the ukpks are made in the us

Another option is the cricket, spin or dragonfly...those are all available in stainless steel which is definitely classy.

A kopa is good, but the jigged bone one is prob the best, and its really hard to find.

My three favorite little spydercos are:

The Lava,

Micro Dyad

Kopa (any flavor)

in no particular order.

Poliwog gets an honorable mention.

I try to avoid the all-stainless knives. They weigh too much and the added weight actually comes at the expense of less strength, since the blades are pinned. I discovered that with a Byrd knife where a little bit of lateral pressure severely loosened the blade.

I know I was abusing it, but it didn't take much force to make it happen. It just doesn't make sense to me to carry that much weight if it doesn't actually add to the strength of the knife.

Having said all that , I just bought a Kiwi on eBay...but it was cheap.
