Best office knife?

Hello all,

I currently am in need of a nice office knife. Something slim and light, and sheeple-friendly, under $100.

I have a large-ish Spyderco, a cheap version of the Buck Mayo (also made by Buck, but I cannot remember the name), a CRKT M16, and a Boker SUBCOM.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

How large are we talking here?

Check out the Benchmade 480 Shoki. I've got one and it's a great knife.

A small and inexpensive Spyderco Ladybug would work, if a tiny (i.e., keychain sized) but very functional knife would work for you.

Also a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife (SAK) is also very functional and generally doesn't scare Mildred the secretary.

Kershaw Leek is also very stylish and non-threatening IMO.

There are many others.

For office type work I suggest the Kershaw Leek. It comes in many color combinations and the blade shape is good for office materials. I would just be careful not to demonstrate the assisted opening.

For office work a nice slipjoint would do the trick.Maybe a small Case Sodbuster.Perfect for opening letters and peeling apples at lunchtime.

I would also recommend a Kershaw Leek. I have the Random (reverse tanto) Leek in regular Sandvik steel, there are two versions in s30v, and one with D2, if you are wanting a steel upgrade. They have the 3" blade and are at 3 oz.

How about the Fallkniven U2? Small, light, sharp, and I think they look really elegant and classy.

I would go with a whittler or small stockman or peanut and you can get a very nice one in your price range. A small lockback might be a consideration too.

Advantages - as sheeple friendly as it gets. Lots of blade edge in a small package. Huge variety of handle materials. cuts and slices most things in an office environment more efficiently than thicker knives. Can be found in carbon steel.

Disadvantages - not a one hander (see sheeple friendly above.), not as many choices in blade material can not take as much abuse. The stockman, whittler and peanut have no lock, if you are not used to them, they will bite if you put enough pressure on the spine of the blade.

Just a thought.

A 16" Bowie would be appropriate, considering some of the bosses I had:D. If anyone has a problem with it, just present it point first and ask what their problem is...

Thanks guys. Looking for something VERY light and about 2.5-3" in blade length.

I was looking for exactly the same thing, something thin and light. Oh, and "cheap." With low expectations, I picked up a $16 Gerber LST. I've been very pleasantly surprised with its performance. The lockup is rock solid, and it takes a very good edge. It's 420HC, so don't expect it to hold an edge like one of the super steels. Edge retention is more than adequate, though, comparable to the Bucks I have in that steel.

With $100 budgeted, you could get the LST for office carry and have enough left over for a pretty nice knife. But if you're like me, you'll find that the lowly LST spends more time in your pocket than the expensive ones.

Kershaw Chive. Small, cute, very "non-threatening." Even comes in rainbow colours.

Maybe a bright orange UKPK. If you ask me, colors give off the impression of "eh, it's just a toy."

Hmm.. interesting stuff so far, guys. Thank you all.

What about those knives that are specifically tailored to your fingers, or something like that? The ones where you measure around 2 fingers and send them your measurements... does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Here you go...

You're welcome :D

I work in an office with a bunch of morons that don't even have scissors on their desks. I carry a Case Canoe and rarely ever pull it out of my pocket to use it.
