Best Performance/Cost ratio?

Everyone, I appreciate your suggestions. It is going to take me a while to do the homework on the recommended the knives.

I think the KaBar Dozier folders should be considered. They're very nice lockback folders for $20.

Spyderco's Endura or Delica have the best performance/price ratio. The Spyderco Native is also an excellent value if you can find one with decent grinds. I would say that Benchmades Griptillian models are also good.

My suggestion is the EKA Swede 88. It's approx. $ 25. A 2.85" Sandvik 12C27 blade, Bubinga handle, adjustable pivot screw, lock back, 60 grams.

Sweet little knife there dePaul. I've never seen one before. I just might have to order one and check it out. Do you know if they have any in carbon steel?

Sorry, the 88 comes solely in 12C27. It's a good steel, IMO, in many respects close to 1095 or 1075 .

As price goes up, the performance/cost ratio goes down. Law of diminishing returns.

I think the best performance/cost ratio is had by any knife you can find for under a dollar that will cut.

But knives are about more than performance/cost. I am willing to pay more to get more, and as a rule, doing so means the performance goes up slower than the price increases.

For various price brackets, the best performance/cost ratio knives are, IMO:

$20
Spyderco Byrd knives
Kershaw Vapor
Kershaw Storm
Ka-Bar Dozier
Buck Mayo Cutback and Hilo
Victorinox SAKs
Opinel (less than $20)

$40
Spyderco Native
Kershaw Leek

$120
Spyderco Manix
Benchmade 710
Spyderco Military

However, I think any crap knife you can get for 50 cents will offer a better performance/cost ratio than any of these.

And I got more use per dollar out of my Sebenza and Strider than any of these. I owned a Sebenza, Strider SMF, and many normal folders between $20 and $200. The Sebenza and SMF were the best, so I carried them and left the others at home. I got more for my money out of the Sebenza and SMF even if the true "performance/cost" ratio wasn't as good.

I think you just want a good knife that is quality, and you want it to be at a good price so you don't feel you paid too much. Any of the knives I listed will fit that bill and offer a lot of knife for the money.

I'd say any Spyderco or Benchmade knife offers top value for the price. Just look at their offerings and pick the one you like best.

Spyderco Native or Delica4. $40 for FRN. You can not find any others S30V or VG10 for these money. So if you are looking for best cost/performance ratio of the cutting tool, this is it.

In the best-bang-for-the-buck dept, I think Spyderco and their Byrd division get the nod from me.

Spyderco with their FRN Clipit line which all come with VG-10 blades. Their S40V blade Native model is for sale at Walmart for $40.00!
Spyderco's Byrd division is an outstanding value for the money spent. I have the Meadowlark, the Caracara and the Raven. These knive's quality is much higher than the price I paid for them.

There are others, but these are the two that stand out in my mind.

Happy hunting!

Best Price to Value ratio?
Easy!
The Cold Steel Bushman
Look, you even get a spear thrown-in at that.
If this isn't a great deal, I wouldn't know what else does for a 20 dollar bill.

The Kershaw Storm II is a US made, Sandvik steel blade, frame lock, and very fast manual opening knife that can be purchased for $30-40.00. Excellent deal! However, the Kershaw Leek can be had on Ebay for about $40 too. Can't lose with either knife.

It is hard to say without knowing what you intend to use the knife for. If you want a beefy and strong folder, I think for about $100 the Spyderco Manis is hard to beat. It compares well to knives costing 3-4 times more. I think (as do many others) that it outcuts Sebenza, Emersons and other much more expensive knives.

If you want something a little cheaper but just as tough, the Spyderco D'allera drop point is a good knife for the money. It won't slice as well as the Manix but it has great steel and is made very well.

For a smaller EDC type knife, the Delica 4 and Endura do offer a lot of knife for the money. They are $40-50 each.

For about $120, the Al Mar Shrike is about as good as you can get. Not many people talk about this knife but that doesn't mean it isn't a good one. It is higher quality than any Benchmade or Spyderco or any other brand for the money. For $120, you get a get a knife that you will proud to own.

I second the Kershaw Storm. Awesome knife. Replaced my much beloved Delica. I also just ordered a Kershaw Avalanche. Not big on SpeedSafe but liked everything else about this knife. Looking forward....

SAK One Hand Trekker for about $30.

AG Russell Featherlite in AUS 8 for $35. In ATS 34 for $50.

Griptilians in their various forms from about 50 on up to 120.

I will second the Byrd/Spyderco suggestions. I use and abuse my G-10 Cara Cara more than my Manix and I got it at 1/4 the price.

Interesting subject , many high end products are into the law of diminishing return . The difference between a good varsity athlete , and an Olympian may be pretty minimal , the development cost difference is astronomical .
