Best Performance/Cost ratio?

I think the answer to this really depends on what you are going to do with the knife. For everyday cutting (small rope, opening letters, opening boxes, etc...) A Queen slipjoint in D2, A Moore Maker slipjoint in 1095, has multiple blades and will get and hold a scary sharp edge. If you want a one blade, check out the Kabar Dozier Folders with Aus8. $20 for a great knife.

I've used a Moore Maker Large Stockman for just about everything and looking for something better for my use is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Higonokami is unbeatable - laminated Shirogamy or Aogamy steel for about $20!

Check out the Emerson Knives and the Al Mar SERE2K. All well made that come shaving sharp.

Sorry mate, you'll really have to do this for yourself. It is only you who can decide where the cost/benefit equation balances for you. I've just ordered a Koji Hara custom and expect to enjoy EDC'ing it more than any other knife I have. Only US$800.

Nice choice Greg. I am looking at a Hara Custom as well. I am looking at the StoneStep.

Until recently I would have said a $30 Buck 110 from Walmart. I recently found that BassPro sells the Buck Mayo Cutback for $12.88. It seems like a great value.

Hmm... SAK goes in my pocket practically every day; Benchmade Mini Rukus is my new EDC but pricey; Buck 110 is a great knife especially at the price; Buck Strider is a tank but kind of heavy to tote; CS Voyagers are great cutters, good quality for the price and are available in a variety of sizes and configurations; Spyderco blades are simply superb if you like the thumb hole (I don't care for it particularly). Lots of choices out there, so buy as many as you can!

I'll second MPE's recommendation for Emerson knives. They are quite well made and tend to have ergonomics that are second to none.

Check out the ZDP-189 Delica in Brittish Racing Green.

You get the timeless Delica design and the best edge retention I've seen on a stainless for about $75. That is a deal utterly unrivaled in the industry right now.

The Spyderco Native is not a bad knife for the price and fits in the pocket nicely. VIC Soldier, another good one for a slightly smaller knife for EDC. Just depends on what you expect to do with the knife.

I dont have that many knives but out of mine the cold steel Recon 1 and Scimitar have been the best for the money.
