Best SAK ???

Lundo,
For a birthday knife. Id go with the Swiss Champ. It has everything and no boy with this knife could care less about the size or weight factor...Its all about having the biggest and coolest knife around.

With this one he can also try all the tools out and see just what is the most usefull to him and in the future maybe go for a smaller model but with the tools he wants in his knife.

Lundo,
Why not Huntsman? - scissors, saw.......
I think you can even choose the camo handle version. Details below:

Huntsman Penknife

Price Each £15.95

I like my CyberTool 34 very much.
Cheers
Andy

Victorinox Super Tinker. It's not too big for my pocket and I need a phillips a lot more than a cork screw.

I have the Victorinox Workchamp with nylon scales and locking large blade. I think it would be a GREAT birthday present! I bought it for myself for my birthday this year. (I'm 31, though)

I agree with Purple95...I think the Soldier model is best. Doesn't matter if it's Victorinox or Wenger, I've had both. I prefer the bailer/lanyard ring on the Wenger. The main Blade is thicker than the other models, so no worries about breakage, and it's simple and still has most tools I need. (If I need more tools, that's what the toolbox is for!) 8-)

If you wanted REALLY simple, you could get one of those Wenger or Victorinox Swiss Army bayonets!

I don't have a Wenger (love to get one some day, though!). I do have the V-Swiss Tool. Use it often. Everything locks. It's awesome.

Lundo: Maybe the Huntsman or the Hiker? But if your youngun' is into magnifying glasses, get the Scientist. I wouldn't get him Champ until at least his 12th birthday. It'll give him something to look forward to!

Josh Wilson: I don't know of any way to customize a SAK, but if you'd like to customize a multi-tool, you can here: http://www.byo.gerberblades.com/step_1.html?cart=3040015508161760

My favorite is the one that I carry everyday, the Manager. It's got the Classic blade, nailfile/flat screwdriver, tweezers, toothpick (which I rarely use in my teeth), scissors, a second wharncliff blade, a picker blade (that's the only way to describe it), and the best of all, a small phillips/bottle opener. I thought that I'd like the new Manager 2 with the transluscent scales, but it's missing the second blade and the tweezers are replaced with a pen that slides out.

My other carry is a Cybertool 34 for the torx bits and the pliers. I still have my Explorer from around 1980. I think I used the phillips on that thing the most for taking apart things that I had broken. My dad has a Camper with a metal end on the tweezers instead of the grey plastic. Very cool.
