Best self defense machete? (or other blade)

if not a firearm, why not some pepper spray or better yet a tazer. watching a guy in convulsions would be pretty funny.

I'd probably have a 10'' + bladed bowie or chopper. That way it's useful AND you can do some damage with it while at the same time it's easy to carry. I'd carry something like this:

I just picked up a Condor Combat machete/Gladius. It's really well-made.
I very surprised at the high level of quality encountered. from a form/fit/function perspective, it leaves cold steels machetes in the friggen dust.

The Condor is a beast, like a gladius. Here is another wicked machete from Ontario:

Ok if your buying it with possible self defense motives then you'll want something thats not too expensive for 2 reasons if your involved in an attack and the police show up you will loose your machete at the very least for however long the investigation will be and you dont want to possibly loose your 50-200.00 awesome machete like that or if the police dont get involved you dont want to carry an expensive machete with you that has someones blood on it so you might want to say acidently loose the machete in and ocean, lake or deep fast moving river. I would go with the 18" Ontario with the molded handle it's a great tool only costs about 20bux takes and holds a wicked edge and you wont wanna cry if it gets lost, stolen or broke during your trip. You might also want to get the military plastic sheath cause if you put a sharp edge on your machete it will slice through the cheaper canvas sheaths.

I would talk a walking stick/ staff. Using an edged tool on another person is not what I would want to do. :)

Take care,
Scottman

Knife fight in a phone booth comes to mind.

I would take my Kukri with me its big heavy and if if you hit with the spine is like a base bat.

I would go with the Cold Steel "Kopis Machete"

I have my eye on one of those as well. It looks like they basically take the blanks for the magnum kukri machete and clipped a swedge out of it... looks pretty cool, though... I would like one made out of Carbon V with a thicker blade...

I forgot about the Junglee short sword. I have two of those. Kind of expensive but would work well for what you want it for.

I gave my sister a CS kukuri machete for SD in her home. I totally understand not being able to carry a gun ,in most country's other than the US you will end up in jail for sure if you can even get one and I doubt you want to go to a Haitian jail.

I would suggest one of the shorter CS machetes with a decent point like the kopis or the bowie. It is small enough to carry in a backpack or briefcase ,light and short enough to fight in a room if not a phone book. I would suggest a lanyard and using it if you have time.

I went for a spendy option and got a Scrapyard HookGuard.

You can see the clip I added to the sheath(thanks Eric) to attach to the inside of my pack so I can draw it faster without the sheath coming with it.
It is no better for defence than the machete and could even be slower but I like it for all sorts of other uses.

I say if you have a choice at all don't live anywhere where you'll regularly have to carry a freaking machete just to stay alive.

The heavy cs gurka kukri. You can even use the spine for less leathal blows.

So you're going back to the Caribean and want to go to the beach with friends. And the problem is you're worried about being attacked by machete wielding thugs?

Can you swim?
