Best Sharpener for a noob

get the sharpmaker, and if you want to learn freehand, get a block of wood and some sandpaper to practice your technique before forking over the money for some stones. sandpaper is cheap and you can get the 80 grit up to 1000-2000 , I started out with the sharpmaker , had diamond rods and UF rods it's a good system for maintaining an edge, I tried reprofiling and even with diamonds it's gonna take awhile, Now I use an edge pro to put "my" edge on my knives, and then for touch ups I will either use the ceramic rod that came with the edge pro, or I also have the lanksy turnbox system, which is like a sharp maker but It cost like 15 dollars, and it has 20 degree and 25 degree setting where the sharp maker has a 15 and 20 degree setting...Also have the lansky clamp system, but I could never get a good edge with it, YMMV though.
