Best slicers

My Military is my best. Finally got it to whittle hair. No fancy steel required S30V!

I know! Although I wouldn't generalize "Benchmade vs. Spyderco", in this case, it seems the thickness of the blade behind the edge makes the BM the batter slicer according to my use. On the caliper, my 806 is between 0.028" to 0.030" thick. The Military reads between 0.030" and 0.035". I doesn't seems much, but I swear I can "feel" the difference! That being said, the Military is an awesome slicer...but this 806 is awesomer!

My Griptillian is about 0.025 or so, after rebeveling it to match some other knives for comparison purposes. I must have missed the era when Benchmade was putting out cold chisel type edges. Of my tactical folders, they are the best cutters. My much missed peanut and stockman from pre-sell Schrade were the best I've had overall. They would cut things my other knives just couldn't be forced to cut.

Opinel for sure. Or, for fancier applications, I'm fond of my Al Mar ultralight...super thin + high polish = great slicer.

Sebbie 21.

I was surprised at my new lg 21 Sebenza tonight. Push cutting magazine paper I felt a hitch about 1/2 down. I pulled out my 6 micron strop and lightly did about 10 passes per side. Afterwards it just sliced through entire pages effortlessly and let me do a few S cuts too!

Hard to believe it, but my crkt mcginnis summa always seems to outslice my pm2 m390 and my gayle bradley at least when it comes to food prep.

Yup. There's something to be said for high hollow grinds. They often end up thinner behind the bevel than many FFG knives.

Opinel, FFG ZDP-189 Ladybug, Military and PM2, Manix XL and Manix 2 (ffg sprints), BM Ritter Griptilian

AG Russell Acies, Spyderco Military, Kershaw Tilt

I realize it's not really a folder but, my TOPS USMC Combat Knife is a supermodel thin .25 inch and... :p

Seriously though I guess the thinnest folding blade I have would be my Wenger SAK. Sadly I have no clever description. :(

Kershaw Echelon slices through material amazingly. The Random Rask 2 is ground nearly as thin. I haven't gotten to put it to much use though. I am really loving high/deep hollow grinds lately.

Most Spyderco's are excellent slicers but the best I've seen (own it) is the Benchmade Onslaughtr. Awesome belly, wide blade and 2.5mm thin. Has everyone beat. :D

That was my thoughts. Before my Onslaught I would have said a toss up between my Military and Deja Vu. Now there is no comparison with the Onslaught. I think I measured the edge to be around .020 at the shoulders.

brets-ftw....FTW. Nothing thicker than an Opinel can outslice an Opinel.

Agreed. I owned maybe 10 different Spydercos before I gave up thick-bladed modern one-handers cold turkey. And NONE of them could outslice an Opinel (or Case trapper, or SAK or ...).

Opinel, definately (For food, I use n° 6, 7 and 8). The belly on Opinels give them a serious advantage on cutting vegetables or meat on a small plank, it allows for a very quick and easily repeated cutting motion. Second comes one of my Delica 4 FFG blades.
