Best stainless steel for use in salt water?

for a first attempt, try 304 or 316 stainless. inexpensive, very stain resistant, very tough, both will take and hold an edge. the knife would not be a chopper, but could take a fine enough edge to slice ok.

I also started looking at CNC plasma cutters. My friend where I work/live has a welding/cutting system coming in and he already has a CNC router. He mentioned hooking up the plasma cutter to the CNC machine. Could make for some easier knife making.
