Best stone for S35VN

You CAN get a knife arm hair shaving sharp with a 325 grit diamond stone easily. It depends on the technique. Fact. Flower the pressure in the end and use alternate strokes.

PS: do not be afraid to use "coarse" stones, they are way more important than finer stones because with them you create the clean geometry. Refinement takes much less time. Once you achieve a clean new bevel geometry you can use touch ups, but don't over do it.

I will be more specific about the situation.

I have my Spyderco Lionspy (elmax) which came with a rediculously obtuse bevel. I am trying to narrow the bevel down with diamond stones but all it does is jagged up the edge so badly.

I literally could not be putting less pressure. Usually I wouldn't use coarse stones for touch up work.

I have heard you can get hair shaving sharp edges with coarse diamonds and I have had no luck. If an edge is dulled to the point it is not slicing paper easily then it should be dull enough to benefit from coarse diamond.

Use just enough pressure to keep the blade in contact with the stone. You can get very aggressive edges with a stone of 325 or 400 grit.

DMT red works best for me on S30V/S35Vn. I find the green (fine) side will give a polished edge, but red seems to create a microscopically toothy edge that cuts well. Ditto for D2. Use light pressure; pressing hard doesn't work any better.
