Ok, just like the other crapload of OT threads, what do you guys like or prefer and why. Technology, style looks? what?

do you care?

Being a person who has worn glasses since the third grade, I have no use for many of the sunglasses out there. I had some Oakley and Gargoyle stuff in high school when I wore contacts a lot, but I lost or destroyed them all. I have a cheap set of polarized lenses that I can wear over my glasses that work well and if I lose them, I don't worry about it. They don't look like the glaucoma patient/safety glass rigs either, so they aren't too ugly.

Prescription, from my eye doctor's shop, titanium frame. I like them because I can see what I am doing with them.
:D

Oakleys look cool, but in time the plastic lenses fade. I like Costa Del Mar triple tails with glass lenses.

Maui Jim for me, I like the glass lens polarized ones.

Oakley's all the way... I have had the pair I currently wear for 4-5 years and have other's that I've had since the early 90's and still wear from time to time. Like anything else if you take care of them they last :D

Oakley, it's been tested by the USMC as good-to-go. It's the Busse of sunglasses. That is if you are looking for an eye protection for shooting, war on terror, zombies etc...

If is just eye protection from the sun and fashion/style I wholeheartedly recommend Maui Jim.

Wally World specials, since i break allmost every pair that i have had.
I have owned ray ban, Oakleys and a few other high price sunglass's over the years, and they all break the same. I have very sensitive eyes, and live on the sun (AZ) so i do wear sunglass's everyday of the year, and have not found much diff in the high $ brands, and some for $10-$20. Most plp are paying for the names only. Well anyway thats my .02.

Revo - Very good lenses and they look good. They also last. I have had mine for about eight years and they still look contemporary and are not lose.

For bike riding, Rudy Project... they are a sponsor but besides that they are also good. All you need is to have your cycling club get the online password and you can order what they offer for 75.00. You can of course change the lenses.

For water (fly fishing) I find that Kaenon Sunglasses have the best polarized lenses. Even I can see fish in the water and I have crappy eyes. Also for water Action Optics (now part of Smith) are very good.

BL wayfayers, the older models destructed at the hinges after a few years (I've got a box of broken ones) the new ones with the spring temples are cool, these are a few years old and still hangin (yeah pun) in there. What I wear on the bike, they work for me.

Good enough for Elwood !

Very cool responses. I think every gets oakleys at one time or another. I have.

I studied this considerably because I needed to get quality sunglasses 12 years ago after an eye operation. Here is what I found:

Glass is a natural UV filter, however, blocking UVa is most important. I actually had the ability to test out several quality sunglasses I own by an optics lab and the sunglasses tha impressed them the most were
Revo
Costa Del Mar
Maui Jim

when it comes to lens performnce they are the top. The glass lenses on these brands are ground so perfect that there is no distortion.

Revo's have one advantage over the other brands. Certain lenses of theirs block out 100% Infrared as well. IR has been implicated in eye disconfort only not in eye damage so the need to block IR has always been questioned. However, the Bolle B100 lens, which is one of the best lenses for cataract and ther eye problem people is also 100 percent IR/UV blocker. However, it badly distorts colors.

Serengeti is another one which is at the top and usually overlooked.

What models within the brands do you guys like the most?

I'll check my models as well.

I am surprised no one mentioned RAYBAN. I had Baloramas and Predators with the G15 lenses that I loved.

Prescription glasses with transitions lenses for me. Wish I could wear normal sunglasses but can't seem to get used to contact lenses:(

RayBan for me, I've owned several different pairs and I love them. I also have some old one's that my grandpa wore years ago and besides some scratches they are still good to go.

:D:D

Eye surgery?

Retinal issues: 1984 twice, 1987 one more, and three cryo out patient touch ups since.

My Dr told me about Revo way back when so that is what I use day in day out and others just for sports.

Cobalt, where are you getting Revo now. Last time I told a friend about them he couldn't find any.

Thanks,
Tony G

Get yourself some Cheap Sunglasses! (ZZ Top :D  )

I either break or lose mine so I keep getting the cheap ones from Walgreens. Do the job and cheap enough so I can just get a new pair when I break the old ones. Eye glasses and sun glasses are such a rape job anyway. Do you really think it costs them much more than a couple of bucks to make??
