Best survival folder?

The two folders I've carried for years are: Al Mar Sere Attack 30002A and a Blackjack Mamba Series II. Both are lock back's.

31/2 inch, or there abouts, length blades are as large as I will go on folders. Anything longer and you may as well have a fixed blade.

New designs and models are forever being churned out. I'm not really a collector, and these knives are going strong after quite a few years, so I don't really need to bother with anything new.

volvi,
You are a wise man. Although I would still go with the Mission MPF as my first choice for this thread (simply because it's bulletproof construction and exclusive use of titanium guarantees a level of failsafe durability that can't be matched by any of the previously mentioned knives), Kit Carson's large Model 4 folder would definitely be my first choice amongst steel bladed folders. In fact, my large Mod 4 with a 420V blade and carbon fiber handles is my first choice for a daily carry.

Although I have other folders that are just as well constructed and made of equally good materials, Kit's Mod 4 combines excellent raw materials, top quality workmanship, strength, durability and, above all else, functionality, in away that I haven't seen before. The fit of the lockup is a good example. There isn't the slightest hint of sticking when it comes time to disengage the liner lock. In fact, it doesn't even feel like it's touching the blade. Yet the lockup is the tightest I've ever seen and there's absolutely no blade play whatsoever. And the hollow ground 4" blade at over 1.25" wide sets a new standard in folding blade functionality. It just excels at an incredibly wide range of tasks. No sir, you definitely can't go wrong with that one.

Tip is too easy to break on the Buck 110. I carried a Gerber magnum hunter (440C folder, drop point) for many years for my deep backcountry as well as everyday knife, but have mostly switched to multitools. More useful than just a knife. I have some nice folders, but somehow in the bush the multitools and SAKs seem to get used more.
Regarding the folding pot, carry a sierra cup like us old folks do. You can boil water in it, and I have many times.
