Best Survival Gear

Interesting. I don't believe I have ever used mine. I keep bandaides in a separate pocket and I have used them from time to time.

It is in deed a Swedish design.

The Fallkniven F1 certainly is.

This Jaktkit is a dead ringer of that design. I guess China isn't the only place doing "tributes"! :D

Funny part, Jaktkit sells the sheath for that knife separately on their website and describes it thusly:

"Kydex sheath for Fallkniven F1 - Kydex sheath that let you carry your Fallkniven F1 as you always wanted"

Yes the sheath fits perfectly the F1, the blade of the Knv2 is different in many ways, but the handle is like it was made by Falkniven directly, the non-slip TPEE is harder than the Falkniven ones and it seems to have an incredible wear resistance. I bought mine from amazon and it came with the kydex sheath pictured.

Jaktkit' knives are made by Ahonest Changjiang Steels they have a load of experience in Stainless, they say it's a 440C variant but the feeling and look of the steel is different from 440.

They both are rounding about the same price also, and I like the F1 a lot, so I gave it a try... And it finally replaced it on my belt.

I'm not really a knife collector per say because I use all the knives I buy and never buy one because I find it pretty, but I like a good tool and good tools are pretty :).

One thing special about that knife, is when you baton it, it has a nice ring when you strike it. It's so cool.

Cool is all that is necessary as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I understood that the F1 fit perfectly in their sheath.

So, your'e saying that you don't mind if Spyderco etc. get ripped off for their designs, as long as the knife is "cool"?
Or do I have it all wrong?

That was a general comment about knives and the rationale in buying or choosing a knife. Has nothing to do with these folks "copying" (or near copy) the F1. I personally would not buy one because of that. I have an F1. I might buy one of their sheaths however.

I was a fairly regular buyer of SOG blades until they "copied" the Spydie hole and I stopped at that point. Time has healed that wound, but I generally don't even look at SOG products anymore. But they still make or have made some fairly good knives.

Okay, understood.
I have been known to buy the odd knife based solely on looks or the "cool factor" as well. (Obviously not clones though).

There it is. 1) Had a hard time believing that someone in Sweden would knock off the Fallkniven F1. 2) The Jakwhetever site seemed hinky, being that they "made" knives AND walkie talkies among other things. 3) The Jakwhetever site's language had that "Chinese" feel to it:

"Hunting knife Knv2 VG-10 Cobalt is based on our test winning 99Cr18MoV Knv knives.

The forged solid VG-10 Cobalt steel will give you the extra performance and edge retention."

Its sounding more and more like a cheap Chinese knockoff.

Maybe is isn't....but you start to see a pattern after a while.

I feel it's fairly clear that they have a) ripped off Fallkniven's F1 design, and that b) the knives are manufactured in China. Of course, Fallkniven's original designs are produced in Japan, about which Fallkniven makes no secret.

It's not a knock off, I can assure you, the knife is good there are many Bushcrafting / knife reviewers sites that acclaimed the thing . And as much they look alike on a picture, they're not, when you have both in hands you can see they have striking differences. But regarding specs they are very much in the same league.

So what? I good clone is ok?

Tell us about them, if you would.

The grind is different, F1 is Full convex, Knv2 extreme V, the blade is wider and thicker slightly longer, it's heavier and the material of the handle is harder than Fallkniven.

If it is a clone of the F1, then yes, it's a good one. But having used both I prefer the Knv2.

1) If you are morally satisfied with "since this clone is a good one, that makes it ok", that is certainly your call.
2) What is an "extreme V" grind?
3) I have chatted with some of the members of the family who run Fallkniven. They are very nice people. And Jakwhatever is stealing money from them.:mad:

Thanks for asking about the “extreme V” grind. I’m also struggling to imagine anybody thinking it’s a good idea to change one of the best elements of the F1: the full convex grind...
