Best Survivel/combat fixed blade

Marcinek has a very valid point, Dan.."Rolling eyes" as a means of dismissing his question actually confirms his point - IT IS MARKETING.

I have no use for a "Combat" knife, nor a "Survival" knife and certainly not a "Combat/Survival knife". That is a marketing term aimed at the 13 - 24 year old age group ("airsofter/paintballer") that will never see combat, nor a survival situation.

A hunter needs a reliable knife to perform the tasks required to dress and pack out his kill. A Soldier needs a reliable knife to perform the tasks required of his job: simple tasks such as opening an MRE...moderate tasks such as cutting 550 cord, 1/4" cotton webbing and waffle board to prepare and secure a resupply drop....to life-threatening tasks such as severing a static line to release a towed paratrooper.

"Combat/Survival knives" are exactly what they are intended to be - a marketing tool used to increase revenue.

The question was posed by someone using the name "JackalopeSTICKER"....going back to what I mentioned earlier about the "13-24 year old age group"...and spells it "Survivel"...

It is hard to type everything out on a phone so excuse the Spelling and grammar errors.. I am no Kid. +45.. And Everyone else had no problem figuring out what was meant. Like it or not, Marketing or not, It describes certain styles of knives. Very simple.. Now quit ruining the thread.

Man, Typical Internet Commando's here..lol :D Some want to argue no matter what.. But to me a Survival knife should be thick, It can pry or dig without too much worry about being bent or broken easily, Thick so you can baton with it., Full tang for strength, Made of a good material and treated well. Full tang with a good pommel on one end to smash something or hammer if need be, And at 7" and 1/4" thick you most certainly can chop with it. Durable is key, It will be a knife that get's strapped to my pack when on extended hunts or back woods adventures. Won't use it for the hunting duties as far as skinning or gutting but could if in a pinch. Too big and cumbersome for that. Sounds like I described a survival knife... :D lol...... Bet you could stab someone with it to.. Like I said once I get it I will post a few shots and impressions.

Actually, you have described what is called a "camp knife." "Survival knife" = no meaning. "Camp knife" = specific meaning. That's all we were asking. Noone was arguing or trying to "ruin" your thread. Just trying to figure out what you meant by "combat/survival." You meant "outdoor recreation." Cool! Now we can get somewhere!

Take a look at the Condor Hudson Bay Knife. Nothing about "survival" or "combat" in its name, no skulls or writing on its blade, and, yet, it is built exactly for what you are talking about. (Except for the hammering and smashing...that's what rocks are for. Saves your knife. Boom. "Survival" skill right there.)

No, I described just exactly a survival knife. it has meaning. Millions would agree, Can it be called something else? You can call it what ever you want. Most knew exactly what is meant since it has been, is , and will be Marketed just that way forever.. You can deny the truth, You can get offended, you can police everyone you want but when it comes down to it, most knew exactly what was meant. There is a reason for it. Do you have to like what it is called.. Nope. But to have a few guys write 2 or 3 paragraph lectures trying to explain how that is not what it is just further proves it is just that.. Kinda Sad... lol

here's their badge, lets see if I win.. Oh and shoot I will have to return that hogue, it has no skulls or tacticool etching on it

You certainly should feel free to call it whatever you want. Call it "Betty" for all I care.

No one's offended, no one's policing you. All the people in this thread who pointed out "survival" knife doesn't mean anything were trying to help. I hope you stay around long enough to see that, and to see that using the correct terminology is the only way to effectively communicate on an online forum (unless there's some new mind reading technology I haven't heard of....maybe Platinum Members get that.)

Congratulations on your new knife, and enjoy your combat/survival weekends. Don't forget to bring plenty of beer and your smart phone!

(And check out that Condor.)

When I read your description the first thing i thought of was in fact a camp knife :S

Here is the one that I bought to fill this role, but I'm on to more traditional blades now

BlackJack Halo Attack 14. Not my picture, but it is my blade. The guy I bought a few knives off of sent me some pictures of them.

As far as a "combat knife"...A real "fighting" knife doesn't need to be "stout" because it's made from steel, and isn't likely to break from fighting. Utiity chores are for utility knives.

This CQB1s actually went through a tour or two in Afganistan:

Hey! I also have the CQB1. You are the only other person I know that has one. Glad it served you well in the sand box.
