Best Tactical Folder

I bought a used cqc7 recently and like the knife very much, however having said that I would prefer my ZT 301, 0200 or Spyderco Military or large Manix (all under $200.00) if push came to shove. The Emerson has a fanatical reputation but I can see and feel the quality and substantial build in the others every time I pick them up. If the cqc7 was the super model I might rank it with the others but the knife would be out of the price range also.:D

You guys have been more than helpfull. After all your suggestions, i looked into all the knives and all their specs. I have narrowed it down to these 2 for now. hehe, but feel free to expand on these choices.

Emerson - CQC7
Benchmade - 710D2

my only concern is, ive noticed that these blades are alot thinner than competition. Would that be a problem if i needed to use it in self defense thrust movement.

Sorry for asking too many questions, but im starting to get into knives, and would like to know more about them before i make a purchase.

Blades on both knives are as tough as they come. The locking mechanisms are the big question marks here.

Looks like now its onto a Linear vs Axis lock debate. haha

Another knife that just caught my eye Al Mar Sere 2000. Havent heard too much about these browsing the forums.

This and the BM 710 are the kinda knives im lookin for design wise

Don't get hung up with the locking type debate, as in your higher quality knives, both lock types are dependable. From the two knives you mentioned, if your primary use is tactical/defensive, go Emerson. If your primary use is practical/utility, go with the Benchmade. Just my 2¢

once again back, and i am stuck choosing between

Benchmade LFTi 760BK Lum BK1 or the Emerson Super CQC-7.

I wanna keep the discussion between these 2, so i wont go all crazy with trying to decide between more choices.

I think you were doing better back when the Benchmade 710 was on the list. Tanto blades aren't particularly good for the tasks you will use a knife for 99.9% of the time. Besides, the slightly longer blade of the 710 would make it more versatile.

Here's something to think about with the Emerson: do you like the chisel ground edge? The CQC7 doesn't have a conventional V grind like most knives you are probably used to.

To tell you the truth ive never handled a knife with a chisel ground edge. My favorite style of blade is what you mentioned, a traditional blade like the BM 710, but comparing it to other blades, it looked like it was on the thin end.

I assume you're concerned about blade thickness because of durability concerns? Blade thickness is a relatively minor issue in regard to folders, and the difference between these model isn't big enough to matter. You're more likely to get a failure somewhere in the folding or locking parts than you are to snap a blade (except out near the tip where they are all vulnerable).

You might want to start a separate thread and ask if anyone has ever broken the blade on their 710. I doubt you'll get many (if any) responses.

Go the best of both utility and tactical and get a waved endura and you won't be disapointed!! Plus still have money left over

Emerson Super CQC-7: I love mine, but I wish the handle weren't so thick and the blade were a tad longer. Handle one if you can before you pull the trigger.

Benchmade 760BK LFTi: I was giving serious thought to this one until I saw a couple of video reviews on YouTube. You might want to check them out.

Good luck!

What makes the Axis lock on the 710 "questionable"? I'm dedciding on whether to purchase a Benchmade mini griptilian or 940 and they both have the Axis lock.

Thanks.

Nothing. I think he might have been talking about the other one.

I don't know too much about ZT but want to check them out.
Is there a full size ZT blade, PE, no recurve?
I also like the BM 710

Spyderco Police-3, look it up. If you're thinking about the millie, look into this first. I once owned a millie and it had a weak liner- I'm almost guaranteeing you that the police three is a better choice. Also, look into the Al Mar SERE and Emerson CQC-8.

Benchmade 950 rift or ZT 300 series.
Get a Benchmade HK 14205 and slimmer 940 for around $250 if you look around for a good price.

The Benchmade 14205 is a beast of a knife in a smaller 3.40" blade package. Very underrated.

if u planning to use it as an utility knife as well...then military
if its just pure tactical, emersons. not that they aren't good utility knives....but flat grinds are better for utilities.
