Best Tanto Knife You've Ever Owned?

If you primarily work in urban areas (where its not practical to constantly carry/wield a longer knife) and as you mention, that you dont need the knife for a very demanding jobs, you might look at a custom Tanto option (where you can get just the size knife, you want)?

There are some beauties out there.

I've only owned a couple that I can remember - a Tanto Blur and a Gerber Yari 2 Tanto. The were both good knives, but kind of suffered from having the partial serrations and Tanto tip in place of something more (for my uses) practical (like a gently curved plain-edge blade).

Yeah. That's kinda what I'm going for. I do want one that will hold up well though. I'm just trying to find another good knife that will last me a while.

I've seen some nice simple compact and relatively affordable knives from R. J. Martin - you should check them out and see, if they are for you.

Google - pictures: 'R. J. Martin Tanto' and quite a few nice ones pop up.

My Pohan Leu custom mini Tanto-C and Kwaiken-C

My Wally Hayes Tac-custom isn't bad either.

I'm no soldier. I work in a construction company doing whatever needs another hand. Running parts, helping build houses, working on the blasting crew, etc. Its not the most demanding job for a knife but they sure as hell come in handy. Nothing too impressive.

And yet you've...

Just trying to get to know the site and figured I'd ask you guys. I've always been a fan of tanto knives. They seem to hold up better for my uses, but I feel like I've gone through the better majority of your common tantos. I'm just trying to find something I really like.

I liked my Tanto Blur and wish I had a Tanto sebenza and Lum Tanto. Even though I love the Tanto sebbie I would never buy one though, I would buy an Insingo or plain

I like this CS GI Tanto because it is very tough. As a tough knife I think the tanto point style fits it.

I got this CS for a cheap utility knife

This old Spyderco is my favorite tanto style. It isn't very exaggerated and looks very classy to me

I got this beat up CRKT to play with. I like the tanto style just fine but I got it because I thought it was tough

One tanto that I've admired but don't own is the Benchmade 760.

I've got a Benchmade 9052 AFO II auto with a tanto blade.
I think it may be my only tanto, but it is a pretty impressive heavy duty auto.

Here is one I made for a customer. I didn't get to keep it very long but I absolutely loved this knife

Here is another custom order tanto framelock. Wish i could have kept one of them. I guess I'm going to have to make myself one eventually.

I've only had a few Tanto folders. The last was a large Voyager which I didn't have for very long. Someone liked it and I gave it to him. I had three Voyagers by then. I found the tip to be useful in prying dried sap out of trees.

In all seriousness A Cold Steel Voyager Tanto.

Seriously think about it... Bang for the buck, in their time, for what they were VG-1 Steel, SOLID lockup and quality control was excellent.
I'd put my money where my mouth is and say 90% of the knife companies knives out there didn't work HALF as hard as Cold Steel's I've seen that kept taking it and asked for seconds.... People talk WAY too much smack about those knives and yes, I own Benchmade's, Para 2's, Emersons currently etc etc etc

Bang for buck those knives were EXCELLENT. I still have several CS knives in my possession including the scimitars which for self defense were tough to beat as well.

I love my CRKT m16-04Z as an EDC. Most of the knives I own are American Tanto style blades. I have the CS GI Tanto which is a phenomenal knife for the price and the KA-BAR black tactical Tanto, which is my camp carry knife.

I just wish I was able to find it with a plain blade instead of partially serrated, but there is plenty of blade for fine work.
