Best up & coming bladesmith?

Keith, I'm sorry but I don't have any pics of Judson's work. I'm sure he would be able to send you some though.

His work is CLEAN!

I've seen some of the work of most of the knifemakers mentioned posted on Blade Forums or on their websites. Amazing craftsmanship! Ron Leuschen is an up & coming knifemaker I have actually purchased a knife from because of a picture posted by another forumite. I was very pleased with Ron's craftsmanship and am looking forward to another creation. Bruce Evans caught my eye with his creativity; I'm sure we'll be seeing & hearing more of him!

If you are going to only have one knife for a while, the one you chose is a good one, Judson. I sure hope to see more of your work in the not to distant future. I will bookmark your site and check it out pnce in a while.

It is great to have you taking part here as well.

Keith, you've spoken highly of Steve Filicietti, and Fisk has mentioned him as well. As a very novice knifemaker from Down Under, I can add my endorsement for Steve. Awe-inspiring work, an eye for lines and detail and superb damascus.

Another knifemaker / bladesmith from Australia to look out for is Shawn McIntyre. Shawn is notoriously poor at self-promotion but I'll happily do it for him. Check out his brand new stuff on Knifeart.com. In addition to being a great maker with top fit and finish, he's also just a nice guy and a good teacher. He makes fantastic working knives in addition to his own mosaic and composite damascus. If you see any of his carbon steel working knives, check out the temper lines.

Cheers.

Jens Anso was mentioned before and I'd like to second that opinion. His designs are clean and his fit and finish is excellent. His sheath work also looks great. I'm currently saving up for one of his Damasheeps/

lunumbra, as much as I like Jens's knives I have reiterate that he is not a bladesmith. The work he does is stock removal. His talents are immense, but he does not fit in this category.

Thanks Jason for turning me on to another fine maker. This thread has been very interesting. I love topics that get me more interested in previously unknown to me, makers and their knives. After all, isn't that what it's all about around here?

As Darby stated, my favorite at the moment is Jason Knight.
Very clean work by a very personable young man. If he sticks with it, we will be hearing quite a bit more about him.

Lots of good names in this thread.

Added later.

I sure am glad to see an old friend getting some recognition both here and in press. Ken Durham is a super guy who has been making for quite a while. He is a quiet unassuming fellow from Cherokee AL always ready with a kind word and ready to share his knowledge.

I know some or most have been named but these are the ones I'm watching or buying from. My list is :

Dan Farr
Nick Wheeler
Ron Leuschen
Granger knives
Bruce Evans
Bill Buxton ( only need to look at his Radial Damascus knife on the for sale forum )
Bill Burke
Judson Barr
Terry Primos

Murray Carter is a mastersmith that is making affordable and excellent knives. His japanese style cutlery cannot be beat by anyone I have seen in the US. His knives are all laminated, sharper than @$$@$^% and hold an edge forever..

Thanks Jerry for the mention. This is 1 fantastic bunch of knifemakers that has been mentioned here and to have my name appear among them, is an honor undescribeable. But it is really

Bill

I would have a hard time picking the "Best" up and coming Bladesmith, since I love the work of most of the makers that have been listed(havent seen some of it yet though), but I will try.

Ok, I will put my vote in for a guy who has been a stock removal maker for about 30 years, but just recently got into forging his blades. Evidently, the transition went smoothly, as Russ Andrews's forged blades were judged good enough to win the George Peck award for best knives submitted by an applicant for Journeyman Smith at this year's Blade show. There have been pictures of Russ's work in some of the recent knife magazines, and I have posted a few pics of Russ's work here from time to time. Simply awesome!

Since I started the thread, I might as well give my $0.02. The best newcomers I can think off are Nick Wheeler, Jon P. Christensen, and Terry Primos. They've got clean and agreeable designs, and impecable worksmanship. Jon has a very recognizable style in bowies, which should be a precious asset. There are other people I can think off, but those are the three that rise at the top of my mind.

Thanks for the mention here ,It is a great feeling to know that I am included in this list of up and commers...
Bruce

Of the makers listed, I can only vouch for Bill BUXTON. I own one of his knives, and love it. Fit and finish are perfect, and the performance is top shelf. I will soon be buying another, as well as one from Dan FARR.
