Comparing the Kershaw Avalanche to the Buck Vantage Pro for top S30V steel honors in this category is a bit like comparing a English Mastiff to a little kitty cat... I'll take the Mastiff and Kershaw Avalanche, thank you.
^ Dogs and cats analogy aside. . . Yeah, but guess what? Not ALL BF'ers, are steel snobs! To some people, especially the long-time, knowledgeable ones, believe that a properly heat treated blade with a good edge grind on it is more important and sufficient enough for everyday tasks.
There have already been lots of good suggestions for fixed blades. For folders, here is mine; the Bokerplus M-Type. I've seen some priced as low as $38.
