Best way to clean packing tape from blade

Any of these could work:

Goo-Gone (it's made exactly for this, and works as advertised; would be my first choice)
WD-40
lighter fluid
mineral spirits
isopropyl alcohol (sometimes; some adhesives don't respond as well to it, and just dry up & harden)
acetone (a.k.a. 'nail polish remover'; be careful with plastics, which might be damaged)

WD40, it's amazing how well it works for taking off sticky residue, and how poorly at most other things it's marketed for. I think they'd sell more of it if they marketed it as a goo remover :)

WD 40 hands down. Also it can be useful for other stuff.

I stock products in my job and constantly get tape residue and tape stuck to my blade. I use isopropyl alcohol to clean ip the residue. I find that using the small alcohol swabs that they sell in the medical section of a store works quite well.

I use mineral oil or soap & water.

This! Also, in a pinch, any kitchen oil will work (canola, olive). Just be careful to use it off or wash it off if you aren't planning on using the knife for a while, since it can go rancid.

WD-40 and an old toothbrush. Followed by a little bit of dish soap and some HOT water. Works every time.

Combination cutting & stropping on cardboard followed by washing it with soap and hot water, use lightly synthetic non-metallic blue or green dish washing pad. Another option old piece of jeans to strop off glue and tape gunk.

For removal of adhesive residue, I prefer using the same tape/sticker or duct tape. I peel off the sticker slowly, scratch off any paper with your fingernail, then continuously, and rapidly re-stick and pluck the tape to the surface residue. Target just the residue spots, don't stick the entire sticker back on.

if the glue isn't that thick and you don't have any special cleaner/solvent on hand - you can use oil off your forehead/skin (unless you suffer from dry skin). I've done that a few times and it actually works pretty well.
