In your opinion what's the best EDC Knife under $100?
I will put it under ____(heavy/light) use so I would prefer a ____ inch blade with a ____(Blade shape). It ____(will/won't) be used for bushcraft.
Overall length of ____inches preferred.

If you're looking at budget steels though, the main contenders are 12C27, AUS-8, and 8CR13MoV. All three have decent edge retention and stain resistance. 12C27 performs a little better in both regards in my experience, but all are decent enough. If you want something in a slightly more premium steel with better edge retention, the Blur is offered in S30V. It's not very difficult to sharpen, though many first-time knife owners are intimidated by harder steels.

There's no need to bite his head off, guys. We were all new here once. There's nothing wrong with wanting a little guidance, even if some of those questions can be solved with a quick google search.

Kershaw's 14C28N is a great steel for a first higher-end knife. They have numerous offerings of it, and for light use, I would recommend a Leek variant.

Yeah, but it's kind of a given to at least have one requirement..

Like asking what's the best car in the world. No one knows your budget

I couldn't agree more. The best way to usher a new member into our ways and knowledge is through civility and guidance.

Overall length must inherently be at least twice the blade length. A 4 inch blade is very large for most EDC tasks. 3 inches is pretty standard for light tasks. If you like Tanto blade shapes, take a look at the CQC-7k and 8k. I own both and they're nice first-time knives. They also have the wave feature that allows you to open the knife as you draw it out of your pocket.

I'll second these. The only other hard use capable Kershaw tanto that springs to mind is a tanto Blur. For true hard use, if you bump up your budget a hair, take a look at the ZT 0700.

Overall length is from tip to tip.
So

Under $100
4 inch blade
Heavy use Tanto
Minimal to no bushcraft, tactical knife
Overall length 9-9.5 inches

Other stuff to consider

Assisted open? Handle material? Lock type?

Most importantly, what kind of stuff will you cut with it? Food, packaging, plastics, ropes, scraping (construction, painting, etc), hard woods, yard work, garage work?

Okay I think I want the Kershaw leek. I know it is very famous. Also, does anyone have a good site I should see to buy it and other knives for the future?

Take aa look at Emerson knives.
Perhaps not a major manufacturer, but your description of what you want screams "Emerson."

We are only allowed to directly suggest the paid sponsors of this forum, like BladeHQ and Knifecenter. But for the most popular knives, there's a certain online seller of everything that tends to have the best prices and free shipping.
