Better luck with benchmade or syderco, which company do you prefer and why???

I have more Spydercos than Benchmades, but I have more different models of Benchmades than Spydercos. I really like Spydercos full flat grinds and (sprint) steel choices, and the compression lock is my favorite lock, the Ball bearing lock is my third favorite. Benchmade I like the looks/designs a lot, and the Axis lock is my second favorite lock.

I really like both companies my favorite from each company In order (for now, changes sometimes):
Spyderco:
1) Manix 2 XL
2) Southard
3) Para 2
4) Military
5) Manix 2

Benchmade:
1) 810 Contego
2) 805 TSEK
3) 806 AFCK
4) 581 Barrage
5) 275 Adamas
8) Full Size Griptilian

That edge...

I prefer Spyderco for several reasons. One, I prefer the hole to thumb studs as an opening method. Two, I find Spyderco designs folders that better suit my practical requirements in blade shape and profile (more distal taper), thinness behind the edge, handle ergonomics. Three, I appreciate how Spyderco engages with its users and the community at large.

Spyderco all the way, Best knife for the price. Benchmade's are not bad however they just really really love their product maybe a little to much. Also last year I contacted Spyderco and ask if Mr. Glesser would sign one of his Spyderco boxes and he did with no fee!! I doubt Les de Asis would do that for a fan. Give me Spyderco or give me death!

 What does this mean?

I've had both. Both good. My favorite pocket knife of all time is the Spydie Military. Really it just comes down to which model speaks to you.

Benchmade charges to much for some of their knives. Like the have gold liners or something.

Does Benchmade use mostly hollow grinds on their folders? It's not always easy to find grind information on them, which makes me think they can't be using anything but a hollow grind.

Good taste in knives, I like Benchmade and own several of them but my hard earned money can be spent on a Spyderco or a Gerber USA.

Specifically the 710(D2), Rift, 940. Already bought the 710, just don't have it in hand yet. I'm hoping the designs I really like come with flat or maybe a convex grind like my Mora.

They do charge a bit, but quite a few of their designs are just eye candy for me. Lots of handles that look outstanding, the steels are better than I'm used to, and I think I'm going to love the Axis lock. The Shot Griptilian in G10 looks like it feels incredible, for instance. And really, with careful shopping most of the production models are out there for so far under MSRP that they're definitely not a rip off.

They both have high flat grinds some may consider them as full flat grind but do not touch the spine in some parts of the blade, i.e. Spiderco Endura FFG.

Not a problem, Enjoy them new Toys. Benchmade does have unique features and are nice to look at with good quality control standards, But like Shotgun said "Really it just comes down to which model speaks to you". In all actuality I like my U.S.A. made blades with the exception of some Spyderco's made in Japan, long as they don't pump out crap and give you great products with good warranties at a fair price then I'm in.
