Better luck with benchmade or syderco, which company do you prefer and why???

I do not choose between companies: I choose knives I like. I probably have got more Benchmade knives right now. But I enjoy every knife I buy and do not turn down any just because "I like the other company better..."

It's like saying which company makes a better candy bar Hershey or Mars. It's hard to say when you like eating both . One day ill have Twix next day ill have a KitKat , or M&M or Reese's cup .

I have had good experiences with both Benchmade and Spyderco. I used to like the Benchmade line more, but have gravitated to other knives and makers like ZT over the years. I still have my Osborne 940 (great knife) and 551 Grip, but my others have been sold off. I think Spyderco is a bit more innovative as are some other companies today. Still the BM's are top notch, and a good value if purchased right. I currently only have a Manix II sprint run, and just acquired a Southard which I really like.

As others have said, you can't go wrong, and I'd throw Kershaw/ZT in there as well which right now I like a bit better. Between those three companies you have a lot of bases covered.

I like benchmade. They are over priced IMHO the 940 looks like a nice knife but for 170 . That's to much when you can get a PM2 for 110 . Ill take Spyderco over Benchmade just because of price . When buying 60 to 120 knife Spyderco has a lot to offer Benchmade they all look like the Griptilian . Than being said Ill take the Mini Grip over the Delica.

You don't have to spend 170 on a 940, some places have them significantly cheaper and some have coupon codes that make them really competitive.

I like some offerings from both companies and, I dislike other models from the same two manufacturers.
Spyderco- Southard,Yojombo,Sage series and others.
Benchmade- Emissary 470, Osborne 943, Doug Ritter etc.

I have more Spyderco's. But here lately I've been carrying my Contego and 710-3, both in com m4 steel. I love the axis lock. And I LOVE com m4 steel. That steel just does it for me. I have both the knives smooth as silk now. They are very slick opening and closing. And the lock up on both is solid.

None of my Spydies are near as smooth opening and closing, except for one. My frankenpara. Its got the grey grips from the 20cp sprint(I think it was that sprint), and an m390 blade from the blue handle sprint. I got it in a trade and its extremely smooth. But it does have just a touch of side to side play, not much tho. That frankanpara is my beater knife. I have put that m390 to the test and I do like it. It takes a great edge. But it just never seems to do as well as the cpm m4 blades do for me. Plus I love the longer length of the blades on the contego and 710-3.

I'm a Spyderco guy, but I have nothing bad to say about Benchmade. I carried an 806D2 for about six years and loved it, and I carried a 750 Pinnacle for hard use for over 10 years. It was only after I joined this cursed forum and joined the "knife of the week" club that I retired them for other, newer favorites.

Still, if I had to choose it would be Spyderco, just based on the perfection of the Para 2.

Honestly, I think most Benchmade models are pretty ugly, but still high quality.

I love the Griptilian and Mini-Griptilian, however.

Everything Spyderco makes is even tackier than Benchmade though (IMO), I'm sure their nice knives, I just can't get over that huge thumb hole and weird blade profile.

So the edge goes to Benchmade.

I like the steels (S-60, S-90, ZDP-189, etc.) offered by Spyderco and the lock (Axis) offered by Benchmade.

There are a lot of Benchmade choices that I love and would def own.

I love Spyderco and own 5 of their knives, but there a bunch that I totally dislike the designs of.

There aren't many BM's that I dislike the over designs.

Just some Benchmades I'd purchase before others.

But by buying blades from both brands gives me the luxury of not having to choose one brand over another.

Some from both that I own.....

Benchmade 940 Axis
Benchmade 905 Elish Stryker
Benchmade 550HG Griptilian
Benchmade HD LFK

Spyderco Tenacious
Spyderco Centofante 3
Spyderco Kiwi 3
Spyderco Persian 2

Either way I will continue to support both brands 100%.
