Better than a Machax................

Awesome videos. Thanks you very much for taking the time to share all of this information and experience. These videos are a great advertisement for the Machax. It's really growing on me. Take care.

I enjoyed these videos very much..... thanks... you've kind of answered this above but if both were current production, priced the same, and you could only afford one, which do you think you'd pick? Thanks again Doc and Phil...really nice work!

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them. ------------Both!! :D Seriously, though, it would depend on how it was going to be used, for the most part.

In the bush, for extended trips, meaning a few days or more, Cinci, for sure - it's just more rugged, in my opinion and I feel it has a bit of chopping advantage. On top of which, Ethan was quoted (in an old American Survival Guide) as saying, " "I want a tool I can use for everything - chopping and whittling as well as a froe, hammer or pry bar," Obviously, he felt that the Cinci was up to the task of prying, but not so much for the KaBar 4.

For 'playing in the woods' days, the KaBar 4 - it's lighter, more easily accessed sheath. Having said that, either one could fit either application, with no problem.

Once again, I was really surprised at how well the KaBar compared to the Cinci - not a lot of difference. In fact, you will notice in the chopping video, Phil kept going back and forth on how they were chopping.

I will say this, too. If somehow, I lost the new KaBar, I would buy another based on my experience with it, so far.

Hope that answers your question.

Awesome review, Doc! Thanks!
Now I want one even more... -Daizee

Do it daizee. I think you'll quite like it, and just to put that in perspective, I don't like all the Becker knives. I had a Camillus 7 at one point, and I sold it - I wasn't overly impressed - not because of the quality, but because of the design. Also, I have a 2, that I don't particularly like. I mention this to underscore my lack of product bias.

Thanks jdk1 - it really is a nice knife, but if you've viewed all the videos, you'd already know my feelings on it.

I'm glad you compared the sheaths Doc.

To me the sheath is an important part of the whole system.

When setting a line of traps, for instance, the knife may be needed often. And on a cold morning when you are all wrapped up in a heavy jacket.... and when you might have a backpack on... and might be carrying other gear..... having a sheath that is easy to use is really convenient. The way the sheath is carried is also something that needs to be considered. A big knife travels well in a backpack, but if it needs to be used often this isn't a practical place for it. The baldric is a good idea.

Leather and Kydex are two sheath materials that are considered the 'proper' stuff to use. But I say that the main thing is to have a durable, secure sheath that lends itself well to the job at hand.

Doc, thanks so much for this. I drug my feet on watching them because I'm not a video guy, but they really watched easy and fun. I love an honest opinion on things, and you and Phil taught me more than two things out of all you managed to jam into those vids. Good no-nonsense material. Thanks!

I'll be tuned in for any followups.

Thanks,
-Z

Thoroughly enjoyed those Doc. Thank you for doing them. I may have to break down and get one of those damned bent Busse knives.

Great vids Doc, your a legend around here.
The 4 might actually suit me better for limbing and trailclearing than my 9.

As a sidenote is it just my computer or was there a audio stall every few seconds or so, made it hard to concentrate with ADD.

Hey sc. Yes I quite like the sheath for all the reasons stated in the video. My only problem with it is that it is just a little bit too long to stuff in my shoulder bag when passing through SoccerMomLand. BTW, did you buy a 4 yet? :D

Like you, I'm not a video guy either on account of it costs me to go over so much download a month. But I recently increased my download limit so I am now watching more of them. I'm glad you enjoyed them - they were fun to do. My two favourite clips are the bottle opener and the rope ladder. I laugh everytime I watch them. :D

Thanks trade. Do it!

Hey Brad, a legend?.....did Coote send you some botanicals? lol Most youtube videos do that on my computer. Is is something to do with the amount of RAM? Maybe some computer savvy person can answer that. I know if I download them with youtube downloader and then watch them, it doesn't happen.

Great Vids!

Thank you very much for doing this!

Thanks jcl-MD - glad you liked them.

Though RAM (or lack thereof) could be an issue, it is more likely bandwidth (ie, speed of your internet connection).

Yes I know I am posting in a 3 year old thread.
Doc, Phil great work. Thank you. I had seen this thread when it was new but never watched all the videos until now. Good work.
I learned a few thing. Some of are.
1. I want to take my new BK4 out
2. I wish I had bought one back in the day. I almost did, even talked to Ethan on the phone but I was young & had nether the money or the sense.
3. I am ready for spring.
I have my 4 now and will make up for lost time.
