beveled 12 this morning

thanks Guys yes this sux
and the first time doing business with them , we'll see what they say tomorrow nope
no insurance on something like this.. they had to order the steel so I'm not sure what's going to happen,,

Dan,
Send me a piece and I will have it analyzed for you. At least then you can tell them what it is instead of just what it is not. Email if interested.
Matt Doyle

Matt COOL
I would like to take you up on that so I'll know more of what I'm talking about, thank you.. what are we talking about for money?
I do know at 1650 deg and quenched in cold water I should have gotten it to do something. :(

I'll tell them I'm going to have it analyzed and see what they say,, but I don't want to sent it out right now in case they want it all back

Mat what is the min amount you'd need? I have about 2 pounds of grinding dust from it now:eek: though I know you can't use that where it's contaminated..:) I'll email you tomorrow :)

good going! Th emost I have beveled at one sitting was about 8 I guess and I got the numb thumb for like 2 days :)
B~

Hey Dan, Did you try edge packing? :D Sorry to hear of your problem....
Ray
when tomorow comes I'll be packing a few of those edges, an it won't be where the light shines either :grumpy: :D

Brian I'm already numb, but I did get a blister from the heat :)

you must not have seen post 12 it was a good go at it but a waste of time..

I hear you on the blisters. I tend to get them all down my first finger:thumbup:

Brian, I get them down both first fingers ;) :D

Got good news, the company will go good for the screw up,
I just have to wait another month and a half,:(
a good day lost kills me the most, other then the customers for these will have to wait too
I just don't know what they will do differently to make sure it don't happen again.. for extra cost the steel company will supply a certificate on the steel
but again I ordered 1095 and the is what I should have gotten in the first place, so in the long run how do we really know what for sure what we are getting if they do not test themselves??? I'm told by them that they sometimes farm out the lazering to over seas  nice..

It doesn't make it rite to do what was supposed to be done, correctly, in the first place.

They are just wasting your time, which I think, is the most valuable commodity, lost, in this screw up.

Is this the point, at which you utter;oh well you live and learn, or just #@!~*()&%

Hang in there Dan:thumbup:

just an FYI

Before buying my own cnc cutting system I used Admiral Steel (Chicago area)for both metal purchases (I still do) and laser work.

They were always on time and charged me only when the parts were processing.

2 thumbs up from me. I have always been pleased when working with them and have had many hundreds of parts run there. I only stopped when my demands increased enough to cut blades in house.

I've done business with Terry at Admiral Steel for a long time, but with emachineshop.com I can use their Cad to draw up what I want, being the first time I'll give the benefit of doubt.
BTW Admiral Steel farms out there laser work I believe still, they did their own at one time in the past,,

Fred I know what you mean, but I'll see what happens, they know about my time problems, and they are sorry, I did ask them by email
(waiting to hear back ) to maybe throw in a few more and pay for the return shipping for the inconvenience :o

I heard back from them ..
they said they will add 3 more blanks and only want 2 of the blades back to keep the weight down on the shipping and will compensate for the shipping..
it doesn't cover all the time and over-head, but we learn as we go,,
from now on I'll test the heat treat before I grind all the blades out :o
and if they do this to me again it will be time to move on and find someone else for this work..:o

up date..
Matt was good enough to test this steel for me, thanks a bunch Matt:thumbup:

this is what he found in it
no wonder I couldn't H/T it
take a look , and mind you, it was 1095 that I ordered I think it resembles more a coat hangar

yes and I like the big number
what the he!! is FE,, 98.24% mass added to make it look like useable steel? :D

Wow. Very impressive. I'm very tenative with my beveling, so it takes me a while.

1008?

I wonder if you can Case Carburise the beveled blades? How does that work is it possible to dump a pile of ground charcoal on a piece of foil, pat a knife blade down on that and cover it with more ground charcoal, wrap it all up airtight and dip in a thin clay slurry to toughen the surface, then lave that on the floor of the gas forge for a weeks worh of forging knives? would that provide enough heat and time to diffuse some carbon fron the charcoal into the blades surface?
