beveled 12 this morning

I work in small run machining. If you specified a type of steel, and they gave you something else, they should be more than happy to replace it free of charge. I would be amazed if they gave you something you didn't ask for and didn't replace it.

1008?

I wonder if you can Case Carburise the beveled blades? How does that work is it possible to dump a pile of ground charcoal on a piece of foil, pat a knife blade down on that and cover it with more ground charcoal, wrap it all up airtight and dip in a thin clay slurry to toughen the surface, then lave that on the floor of the gas forge for a weeks worh of forging knives? would that provide enough heat and time to diffuse some carbon fron the charcoal into the blades surface?

they could be but the Case would be so thin it would be short lived with sharpening.
the way we use to Case harden is to heat the steel to a certain deg and drive it
into a can of case hardening material I can't remember the name of it..
I'm sure someone here knows, Robert?..
there are other ways to do it. but for a knife I wouldn't do it..

take a peek a few post ago, they are going good for them and then some:thumbup: I just hope it isn't repeated

that looks like scrap yard steel was just all thrown together and melted.....

not good especially when you specified the steel...
