Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Howdy folks! I’ve been pretty busy lately and have fallen behind on the porch, but it’s nice to be catching up now.

I’m enjoying a tasty beverage in the backyard while tending to food on the grill:

The real excitement of the day, though, was making that little letter opener in a blacksmithing basics class. So much fun!

I also made a spoon, but tried to get too fancy with the handle and broke it. Oh well, that’s just an excuse to go back and play try again!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I shared these photos in the Adventures of Pearl thread, but figured I might as well share them here, too.

We headed over the the Waconia Brewing Company in Waconia, MN today. We started with a flight to sample their flagship beers.

Then we grabbed a couple pints. I had their Kölsch, and my wife had the Amber. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter (bottom-middle in the flight) was interesting, too.

When we got home, I had an Oatmeal Brown Ale from Surly Brewing Co. for good measure.

Great to see you on The Porch, Greg!:) I initially hadn't scrolled down far enough to see the text below your pic, and wondered what the "twisty-handled" knife was. Then I found more text and discovered I should have been asking the question, "What hath Greg wrought?" ;) Pretty cool project!:cool: Maybe you should contact @Hickory n steel ; I think he does several types of forging projects from nails that are impressive, especially with his homemade set-up!

Looks like an enjoyable outing/day for Pearl and you, Barrett! ;) (And I like this view of your deck table much better than the last view I remember seeing!:thumbsup:) I happened to be checking out beer selections while getting groceries yesterday, and noticed a "Kölsch-style" beer from Leinenkugel called "Canoe Paddler". How would you describe that particular style of brew? Thanks!

A recent lunch for me:

GT, Kölsch (and Kölsch-style) beers are very refreshing. If I remember correctly, they are a bit of a hybrid in that they are fermented warm and then "lagered" at cold temperatures during conditioning. They are fairly light, dry, and crisp with a bit more flavor than a typical lager. I love a Kölsch during the Summer.

GT, I think Shawn pretty much covered it. It's a nice refreshing style for warm weather. I don't know if you can get Schlafly beer (out of St. Louis) where you are, but they make a good one.

LOL and thanks, GT!

This afternoon I had a beer that I’m certain you’d enjoy. It is a very tasty milk stout from Firestone Walker called Nitro Merlin:

I thought the coloring on the bone of that 6383 would match up nicely with the post-pour nitrogen bubble fest. :)

Thanks for the helpful info, Shawn and Barrett.:thumbsup: I'm certainly ready for some summer weather; maybe picking up some Kölsch-style beer will help bring it on!! ;)

Forgive the poor photo quality; the sun was on its way down, and I did what I could. Two exceptional blades and my favorite bourbon.
