-David.

Great pics David, looks like a nice pub, with a lot of beers choices

Spent a pleasant Sunday afternoon catching up on my favourite Porch threads.

I’m not much of a lager drinker, nor do I usually put much stock in labels of drinks when making my selections, but I had to try this lager while at a mates Ethiopian restaurant ... if only for the Amharic lettering and St. George and the Dragon motif. It was actually a pretty decent lager.

Other than that, I’ve pretty much been on a Russian Imperial Stout odyssey, over this Southern hemisphere winter.

Here’s a classic, served at my local, most of you guys and gals will recognise:

Fired up by some of the descriptions I’ve read in the Porch, I’ve even sought out a local authentic southern US BBQ joint (yeah @r8shell, I blame you!) ;):cool:

Hey, my prodigal pal returns! ;) Good to see you here Chin, hope you're keeping well my friend :) All the Ethiopian beers I've had have been pretty sweet, nice enough though. Old Saint George gets around doesn't he? ;) I love a Russian Imperial Stout, excellent choice of knives too ;) Save me some salad! :D

Thanks my friend, yes the St Georges was crisp and spot on for a lager to enjoy with rich food.

Here’s another lager - a dark one this time, which I enjoyed this winter, while up in the Victorian high country, hunting Sambar deer.

As I've mentioned before, I love these little side trips to the local pubs, thanks, David!:thumbsup:

Your welcome gents. I took a trip out to the West Midlands to visit the Turf Tavern in Bloxwich as I've been visiting pubs on the 'National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors'. The West Midlands has a profusion of them, of which the Turf is probably the finest example. It's how all British urban pubs would of looked at some point and hasn't changed in maybe 150 years. No music, TV's or games machines, you literally leave the 21st...no actually you leave the 20th century at the door. Just the ticking clock, clink of glasses and conversation are all that can be heard.
Unfortunately no usual pint and knife pic as both mobile phones and cameras are banned :D and it just didn't feel right trying to sneak a quick shot.

I ended up in the Vine as it's a short bus ride away. Built in 1938 it's also on the inventory and a fine example of a pre-war urban pub.

Those look like a couple of fantastic pubs David, particularly the Turf Tavern :) How could we have lost so many places like that? :(

This far into it and I'm not sure I'm a fan:

Smells like Laphaoaig which should make me a fan:

But it tastes like a campfire. Then again this far into it and I'm not sure I'm not a fan. Kinda on the fence.

Definitely on the fan side of the fence with this one:
