I had some wonderful oysters in Whitstable years ago. Lovely town.

- quite right, Dave.

Was at Canterbury School of Architecture maaaaaaany years ago, and one of the student houses I lived in was right on the seafront, just yards away from horror movie actor Christopher Lee's house.

People drive for miles to eat the oysters and shellfish there......not the most picturesque seaside town in the world, but a charm all of its own

I was only talking about Whitstable this morning, as my friend's sister has a house there. I've never visited, but it does look to be a lovely town :)

As Paul said, it’s not the most beautiful seaside town, but it’s got a nice, real-life feel to it—and damn good oysters!

I do know 4 of those 6 beers ( the Chimays, i live close to the Scourmont abbey) but i have no clue of what this elegant stockman is. Can you tell us a bit more about it? Thanks.

Dan.

It's a Keen Kutter, a gift from Charlie @waynorth.
Here is what specialist @danno50 says about her :"Sellens says that particular shield was first used in 1942, so it would have been made sometime between 1942 and 1959, when Shapleigh went out of business. It would appear to be a Camillus made knife, based on the shape of the spey blade. That beautiful bone also looks like some of the Rogers? bone used by Camillus, to my eyes anyway. I have no idea why there is no tang stamp?"

She's clearly one of my favorites and rarely leaves my pocket. :)

Joli Papa,

Thanks for the informations. Very beautiful knife, i see why it doesn't leave your pocket but if i were you i would have a practical issue: i couldn't help to keep my hand in the pocket!

Chimay est le meilleure bière du monde!
(Not sure that's the right grammar and spelling. ;) )

Prester John,

A very minor mistake: "la meilleure bière". Your french is good. There are so much excellent beers in Belgium that the Chimay is by some connoisseurs considered as being average ones. What is sure is that: les bières belges sont les meilleures du monde.

Dan.

La meilleure... at least one of the best for sure!
I can't help you guys either. I only know a few words in about ten languages and that is " I Love You ". ;)
Some learned another few with LadyMarmalade!:rolleyes::D
Vince, to say it the Belgian way, you must add une fois after each sentence! I love the Belgians, they are jolly fellows (and have good beers as well). Brussel is just 2 hours away by train.:)

edit dantzk8 dantzk8 that's quite that! (for the stockman):)
Chui Chui the Trois Monts from a small old brewery is also worth a try, made in French Flanders, very similar to a Belgian.

And don't say "merci" (thanks), say:"s'il vous plait" (please) and with the slow, somehow singing, accent which is often mocked by the Frenchs kidding the belgian with jokes where they look dumb.

The best reply i've heard from a belgian friend is: " We have "French jokes" but we never tell them to the French because we have to repeat again and again and again until they understand".

Merçi, Dan. I have not tried all the Belgian beers, but I would probably put Chimay (red lable, but love the blue also) at the top of my list of favorite beers. It's expensive here now, so don't buy too often. Seems like the price is double what it used to be.
