Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Mitt, the Dickel 9 yo SB is one of mine and my son-in-law's favorites: to us it is waffles with butter and maple syrup on a lazy Saturday morning! I envy you a full bottle, as mine is down to the nubs, and they are few and far between around here.
I got it as part of a bourbon exchange. A few friends and I get together for a good lunch and draw numbers out of hat. We put a limit of $60 on a bottle and have seen some interesting bottles. I will have to open it next.

Barrett, my guess for today will be the "W. L. Weller Special Reserve"

Let me introduce you to the kir bourguignon or BourBour, Bourbon Bourguignon. :)
A hint (or a drop depending if you prefer more or less sweetness) of a good 20° blackcurrent liqueur (18° is just passable, 16° grazes casus belli ) and a good splash of good unexpensive bourbon (but a good-not-expensive whisky does the trick as well, call it BourWhi or WhiBour, or just what you'd like, after all, never tasted RyeBour but should be ok!).
Add one or two ice rocks. And down behind the necktie as we're used to say! :D
Perfect drink for celebrating Labor Day (and a testimony of how much do I praize labour! ):D

I just discovered I'm nearly 10 pages behind with this thread! The main reason for my absence has been a bad back, which has made it painful to sit at my desk. I was mainly drink malt whisky and good rum in the early days, but I'm managing to get beer delivered now, so Happy May Day everyone ;)

Few more beer pics from the past week or so

Would cherry liqueur work?

That’s cool the Havik an American Pale Ale brewed in the Netherlands

Alright, time for a little update on the Guess-Which-Whiskey Giveaway (or the GWW GAW, for short). So far, 18 bottles have been guessed. There were 27 in the group photo, but even the not-so-eagle-eyed among you probably noticed that 6 of those bottles were unopened. ...

I’ll let this run for another 24 hours, until 5 pm CDT tomorrow (Friday), at which point I’ll announce the winner.

I’ll go ahead and repost the photo (with the “eliminated” whiskeys crossed out) to assist with your final guesses.

Yesterday, I was about to make the Old Forester my next guess, since I liked a Sean Connery movie named Finding Forrester, but at the last minute, while looking at a blown-up photo of Barrett's display, I finally noticed that the seal had not been broken on that bottle. Then I noticed that there were several bottles that were possibly unopened and became so flustered that I never posted a Thursday guess!:rolleyes: Sometime later (or was it this morning?), I finally saw Barrett's hint.

So my final guess will be Elijah Craig, since Elijah in the Bible is such a forceful prophet.:cool::thumbsup: (Chuck Norris faints at the mention of the prophet Elijah! :D)

Here's what I drank with my evening meal last night:

I hope this is an acceptable thing to do within an existing thread. I thought I’d do a little ***GIVEAWAY*** here in the Traditional Beverages and Blades thread, with a year’s Gold Membership as the prize.

Things have been a bit boring being stuck at home for weeks, so today I gathered up all the whiskey/whisky I had in the house and lined ‘em all up. I grabbed a glass and couple forum knives, selected one bottle and poured myself a drink.

Now all you have to do is guess what I’m drinking. There are 27 bottles total. (A couple should be pretty easy to rule out. ;)) Here are a few rules:

  1. Post your guess here, along with a photo that belongs in this thread. (Doesn’t have to be an alcoholic beverage; just a beverage, and a traditional knife.)
  2. One guess per day. (Just use your best judgment, i.e. don’t post a guess as 11:59 pm and another at 12:01 am.)
  3. Feel free to guess something that’s already been guessed by someone else. That’ll give more people a chance, and I’ll pick randomly from those who guessed correctly.
  4. I’ll let this go a for a few days, I think, to give everyone a chance to see this and enter if they want.
  5. Finally, no “not an entry” posts. It’s not a knife you might already have, it’s a year of Gold Membership supporting the forum. Great for someone who isn’t already a Gold Member; also great for someone who is. :D
That’s it! Y’all start guessing, I’m going to go enjoy this tasty beverage.

Ok, the GAW is over, and the results are in!

The most popular guess (with four guesses) was the Weller Special Reserve. Sorry, fellas. It wasn’t the Weller.

Maker’s, Buffalo Trace, Dickel and Four Roses were also popular with three guesses each. Well, it wasn’t any of those, either.

None of the Scotches received more than one vote, but that’s ok, because it wasn’t a Scotch.

No, the whiskey I was drinking was…

The Elijah Craig Small Batch! Pretty good stuff, too, especially for just over $20 a bottle.

We had two guesses for Elijah Craig: @Georgecatl and 5K Qs 5K Qs . When I started this, I said I’d do a drawing to choose a winner if there were multiple correct guesses. And if it had been, say, the Weller, I would’ve stuck to that. But two guesses is only slightly more than one guess, so why don’t we just double the prize. I’ll extend both of y’all’s Gold Memberships… right after I fix myself another drink (and figure out how to gift a Gold Membership). ;) :D

Thanks to everyone who participated! Cheers!

Really cool GAW, Barrett. Thanks! It was fun guessing. I liked Gary's reason for choosing that one, and his Chuck Norris joke. :D
Congratulations to George and Gary!:thumbsup:
