Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

I was thinking Kentucky or Tennessee, but today is for Texas and Texas alone. 185 years ago today was the of a 13th and final day of a siege, a day a group of men gave everything and whos sacrifice became the battle cry that gave birth to a republic.

Excellent Mitt! Here’s to our former Republic! Though I’m out of Garrison Brothers at the moment.....

Caol Ila is one of my favorite Islays. I'd say it's less sweet than Lagavullin, less peaty than Ardbeg, more seaside briney.

Caol Ila is primarily focused on producing smokey peated single malt for use within Johnnie Walker's blended whiskies.
it's strong but you get used to it, I love it.

I hereby vow to never come back on this thread again. You guys are a TERRIBLE influence on me.. (yeah, we'll see how THAT works out... )
I had to stop at the store this afternoon after work, and found a bottle of this stuff.... in a nutshell.... it's amazing! Oh, mylanta (do the cool kids still say that?) It is smooth, with a kick, and a GREAT flavor profile. I'm not sophisticated enough to wax eloquently about nose, finish, musical notes, whatever... but this Islay is wonderful. And this is just after a two finger glass of it, accompanied by an Oliva Wrath Habano "seconds" cigar.
The biggest problem is that the one bottle cost 3/4 of a C-note. :(
Look for a bunch of sales threads on the exchange, as I try to finance my new addiction....
This sounds right up my alley. Might be my next purchase. Thanks for the info.

Its the weakest in flavor its also not the strongest I have. Most of what is on my shelves is single barrel, they tend to have better a flavor. I have a bottle of Balcones True Blue cask strength single barrel that was bottled at 128 proof.
Yes... the single barrels are usually pretty high octane. I've not had one that is as high as that Balcones, though. That's a Texas whiskey, isn't it? I might have to try to find one of those, for those days when I'm feelin froggy..... :D

Yep, out of Waco of all places.

I was born about 35 miles from there.... I think it is my patriotic duty to go buy a bottle....

They make a wide range of whiskies. I haven’t opened the single barrel true blue yet, but their regular true blue isn’t bad. They do a few different pot still and single malts, wheat and rye whiskies. They even had a peated single malt. I’m not sure if they still do or not, I have only seen it once.

So not like this stuff Jer?

Foregoing my normal distaste of anything with the words tropical or pacific in the brew name.. this one intrigued me...I got mix n match 4 pack of Batch beers....the tasman tango is apparently because it has kiwi and aussie hops...in a lucsious dance of flavour or some such bulls###....as if that would ever happen...gotta say...not bad at all...
Cheers.

I have a new favorite beer. Upper Hand Brewery's Upper Peninsula Ale. (Their original and flagship.) No funny tastes up front or after, up the nose or back of the tongue. Just a nice, clean ale.
Sounds like a recommendation, Jer.:thumbsup::cool:
I'm sure I've had beer from that brewery, probably while vacationing in the UP, and probably some kind of porter or stout if they brew it. The fact that I don't remember any details probably says more about my memory than about the quality of the beer.

I checked the brewery's website and found out that their products are available at 106 retail outlets within 10 miles of my zip code, including Miti Mini Liquor just 3 blocks down the alley from my house. Of course, at the Miti Mini, a 6-pack probably costs $25! (Haven't actually checked, but they don't typically have discount prices.)

That's a useful feature of their website. I had it draft from my favorite bar, but they have it at a near-by Harding's also.
