Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

International breakfast šŸ˜‚

Welsh cakes
German coffee
English butter
Anerican knife

All the Welsh cakes I’ve ever eaten were consumed in a one week period around Christmas 2018. We were spending the holidays with my brother and his family who lived in Bath at the time, and spent one day in Cardiff. We came back with a couple dozen Welsh cakes from a stall in Cardiff Market. They were fantastic!

like all things much better home made.

I was surprised and happy to find one of these in the back of the fridge Monday night! Won't be long until they show up in stores again for a couple of months - Glory Days! 😁

French or Spanish blade? Does that porter have a strong taste but softened a little with the vanilla?

It's a Spanish knife; see the quote below. The porter doesn't taste very strong to me, but most porters taste milder than stouts in my opinion. I can definitely taste a hint of vanilla in the porter.
Here's a knife my wife gave me for Christmas 2017; I should have posted it here months ago! :(
I'm quite sure that, although it's "from" my wife, our daughter who spent the past 6 years in Spain actually bought it for her in Toledo, Spain. And, although she bought it in the workshop of a famous Spanish knife/sword maker, after being alerted to Spanish knife marketing customs by a BF member from Spain, I searched the internet a bit and am quite sure the knife is actually a production knife made by Salamandra, model 10012. Really like this knife and its European-style stag.

Back from my chilly bike ride of 90 miles around the gorgeous Cotswolds.

A nice filter coffee non of this posh pods nonsense for me and another slice of delicous filling Genoa cake.

This one is already a favourite since it landed yesterday.

I class it as a proper working knife.

Like all of my 71s they seem to clean up easy and even if you run them in water still smooth to open without much oil.

Lagavulin Offerman Edition finished in Guinness casks. This is Nick Offerman’s second collaboration with Lagavulin, the difference from the first being the Guinness cask finish. I had the first Lagavulin Offerman last year as part of my DIY whisk(e)y advent calendar in this thread last year. It’s fine, but doesn’t quite live up to Lagavulin 16 (my favorite whisky). I probably wouldn’t have bought this second one, but I like Nick Offerman, and I like Guinness, so… call me a sucker for marketing, I guess.

I will say I like it a bit more than the first Offerman (I did pour a small taste of that to compare them side by side). It’s closer to the 16, with some curiously sweet notes. At a price slightly higher than the 16, I can’t say I’d buy either of the Offerman editions again, but they were worth a try and will be good for a change of pace every now and then.

The knife is Merle.

Still October, so no apologies needed for having one of these tonight. (But I'm hoping to keep drinking festbiers through most of November, too, and I probably won't apologize for that, either. šŸ¤“ )
