Sorry Esav. But by doing so wouldn't that prevent other buyers from being taken by that guy?

At this point it's too early to be sure that you been taken. I will say it's not looking so good though and just ignoring my PM when I know he was online.

Not necessarily referring to you but in situations like this being preemptive is good but being premature can serve to make things worse.

Edit
He is online yet again

just ignoring my PM when I know he was online.

I am signed in and "online" on Bladeforums 24/7, though I am actually looking at Bladeforums slightly less than that. I'm not exactly sure how the green dot next to the name works, but mine is probably lit up 24/7 - even when I'm elsewhere. Just saying.

When you're inactive here for 30 minutes the green light goes out.

Edit

Also when you view different threads or forums you can see that as well so it's pretty good indication that you're online when you're bouncing from different threads.

That's assuming bad faith on his part. We don't know that yet. Here's what the rules say:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/announcement.php?f=699&a=98

SECTION 4 - Rules for buyers
Do not post in an ad unless you are interested in the item / service that is being offered.
ABSOLUTELY NO COMMENTARY OR FEEDBACK IN SOMEONE'S THREAD. Seriously, if you stomp on someone's ad, your account can and will be locked.

We don't lock accounts for a simple comment, of course, but we do want to keep Exchange threads focused on sales and trades, and FEEDBACK focused on the comments.

I'm curious, exactly how long does this guy get for making things right? 2 weeks, 3 weeks? It's clear that he has been on the forum in the last few days and has even posted a FS thread yesterday. If he can do that, why can't he send a simple email to explain why I haven't received the knife or a DC#? This seems pretty clear to me. What exactly are the MODs looking for?

In my book ignoring you/mods on purpose doesn't give him any more time to make things right.
He is in the wrong and I find it difficult to justify his behavior.
At this point he either mans up and does the right thing (apparently he's not interested in that) or he should be blocked from selling until he does.
Banning him does no good to you tripham
If I was you, I would exercise some more patience and hopefully he will come to his senses.

Hope it all works out.

^^ I agree with Tek 110%.
He has completely ignored you.
Ignored mods.
Has been selling.
But hasn't been sending you any emails explaining the situation.
Some people think that just because they have good feedback and a few good deals that they can pull something on someone and not have to really deal with it because they've been good and honest in the past.

I have 40+ deals here and several deals on another forum and have never run into any serious issues.

I hate to say it but I do believe you were scammed and that saddens me because this is a great forum.
I promise we don't all rip people off.

Before you pulled the trigger, you knew he was trying to cheat with your assistance. It was not a "gift."
Now, it appears he is cheating you as well as PayPal.
I hate to see him get away with it because I hate to see cheats get away with it.

Ok, I'm done with being nice and patient. I forfeit my gold membership and you should ban me because I will continue posting on his FS thread until he refunds my money and not allow another member to get screwed. For him to steal my money and still post FS adds tells me he feels as if he is above the law.

There is no need for that tripham. The one post in his for sale thread along with this thread you started should be enough to warn people to be careful.
I made a trade offer on that thread before you posted, but he turned it down. If he were just trying to scam people I would expect him to accept the trade and not send out his side.
I do appreciate you starting this thread. These people need to be called out.

The send funds over as a gift option should (in my opinion) be banned from this forum. I've been involved on other unrelated forums that had the same issues. The mods simply posted up in the rules..no items are to be sold requiring the gift payment option. the mods monitor the for sale section and there have been way less issues as a result. It is true, some may be busy while unfortunately others see these forums as a way to get over on honest buyers. People asking for $ to be sent as a gift is a big no no to PayPal if it actually was a transaction rather than a gift. As others have stated previously. It's better to pay the fees & have Paypal back you than to try n save a few dollars just to chance losing out on the transaction entirely.

So he contacted you spketch. And yet he has done nothing to make things right with me. He clearly sees my post. Why would he not defend himself if he is indeed innocent of wrong doing?

Actually rather than responding to my PM directly he added "no trades" to his thread. I'm not trying to defend him, just getting the facts out.
But yeah, not looking good on his end.
I would prefer not to see a good member go kamikaze when there are other ways to deal with the situation.

Thomas Linton, I did not know he was trying to cheat me by asking for the gift option. Several sellers do that. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. At the time, I had no reason to think he was a scammer.

I locked all the threads early this afternoon right after you posted on them. I must have missed the Southard thread though.

I can't fathom why you would do that.

You will be simply allowing him to keep your money, and be banned for your membership, and loose out on the great interaction here on bladeforums. Have some patience and let it play out.

The rules are designed to help you out.

If mods simply locked his account and banned him, it would guarantee you would never hear from him again, or get any relief. He would have no motivation or incentive.

I have never used paypal Gift ever on any purchase and never will.

^ Yeah, ditto that, man. You seem like a good guy. It'd been nice if you stuck around. Worst outcome is that you're out a little over two bills. I know it sucks. Everybody here is currently on your side on this one. Have patience and maybe we can get this worked out.
