Beware of R.W.Clark, previous owner of Period Customs

Ya really, talk about beating a dead horse.I almost forgot about this thread until you picked the scab.If you don't agree with having this type of forum for airing problems in public than don't even enter here. The person that started this thread, just didn't jump on here complaining, without first trying to resolve it privately.Personally,he is a fine gentleman, because he went far beyond the realm of having acceptable patience and understanding.I also believe this thread has allowed us to see the real character of Mr.Clark, whom accepted responsibility and made the situation right. He offered no B.S. and took full blame, and corrected the situation. In fact if it weren't for this forum, the situation might have continued, especially if there was a communication problem.Well I'm glad everything is settled, and I'm a firm believer in the mission of this forum. My two cents,RS

Boris, I really think you should actually read all of this thread carefully. Sometimes folks appear to get themselves into a bit of a mess and it get so deep for them that they may hope it will just go away. Sometimes a little public kick in the pants is needed to help the solution along.

I also feel this thread was good for RW. He realized the problem needed to be handled NOW and he did so. Seems to me he showed that he wanted to work it out, and is attempting to repair whatever damage his reputation may have suffered. I think he came out of this just fine, and he has made a good effort to continue to earn trust.

i usually dont get involved over here at gbu,but this line threw me off...
"I do not, however, see beauty here."

sir,are you talking about the knife,or the situation?
because this is what this particular forum is about.reporting the good, bad, and ugly.

nothing wrong with warning fellow forumites on bad deals.

Masterchef, calm down. This has been settled to the satisfaction of Dew. If he is happy, who are you to come down so hard on R.W.? What happened is unfortunite, but it looks like R.W. admitted he was in the wrong, took his lumps and did the best he could to resolve the situation. I for one respect him for the courage he showed and would have no problem buying a knife from this maker. If you don't want to, then don't.

Guys,
Boris has emailed me and informed me that he is new to the internet as he had said and wasn't aware that posting would move the thread back up to the top. I say we give him the benefit of the doubt as we would anyone who is new here. I believe he was really happy with the knife he bought from Mr Clark and wasn't fully aware of how this forum works.
How bout we lay off and let this one slide off the page.

Dave

OK, I'm sorry I opened Pandora's box, so let me attempt to close it.

I am very new to these boards and I did not realize that my comments would send this board BTTT. In fact, it was only last week that I wrote one of the forum members and asked what "BTTT" meant.

My objective was to leave a message:

1) Ron's work is great and if you like the type of knife he builds, you won't be disappointed.

2) Think long and hard before dis'ing someone in writing. In my mind, it's OK to complain about a company that screws up or screws it's customers. It's another thing to attack a person's personal honor and integrity.
This board states that it is for customer complaints about dealers, that is: Companies. I felt that a personal attack was unwarranted and that Dew's beef, even though legitimate, was much better handled privately. It is similar to a situation of having your boss chew you out in front of your co-workers. Even if you deserve a butt-chewing, it goes better for all if it's done in private.

I am sorry I opened this thread and please, let's put this into history and not respond. I'm sure Ron and Dew learned a lesson. I certainly have. So please don't add to this thread. Let's let the sleeping bear rest.

This forum is for reporting experiences with anyone who sells knives. Whether the seller is incorporated or not makes no difference.

Meta discussions are always welcome, but it's best to discuss different topics in different threads. When several topics are discussed in the same thread it can get confusing -- for instance, is the remark "Think long and hard before dis'ing someone in writing" a response to the post that started this thread, suggesting that five years is not long enough, or is it a response to some other post on this forum? It's not clear....

You can start a new thread by clicking on "post new topic" at the bottom of the page, and give it a title indicating what it's about.
