BF etiquette

I’m gonna go slightly against the grain here without knowing all of the little details but if we agreed to a deal and you still haven’t paid 2-3 days later, the knife is still available to anyone else. I don’t accept the “I’ll take it” as a hard and fast deal because I’ve had plenty of people back out after the fact. I will not mark the knife SPF or “on hold” so you can gather funds unless I really know you well and have dealt with you in the past a few times. Whoever pays me, gets the knife.

Did you have payment arrangements made at the time of the “deal” giving you a few days to pay? If not, why didn’t you pay right away?

I look at it slightly different, but some the same-I agree the deal isn't made by an I'll take it alone, but I think the deal is made when the seller agrees to that I'll take it and provides the payment info. Now if the buyer doesn't pay in a timely manner or arrange for the delay, all bets are off-that to me is part of completing the transaction, Just as mailing the knife is. At least that is how I see it.

P Peter Hartwig , correct and i agree, thats why I asked about any possible payment arrangements. Lots of little details that aren’t known at the moment before siding with the OP since we’ve only gotten his side so far.

Immediate payment is normal, but I don’t think it ought to be required unless stipulated in the original sale post. Even the Bay gives some time. I think if someone isn’t able to pay immediately that they should indicate that to the seller when making an offer, which the seller could refuse. Communication is the key here because a few brief messages can keep expectations from going astray.

Devil is always in the details
Seems we have few details to go on:oops:
The sellers absence @Scot Ginsburg in this thread does provide some indication of his participation on BF

I agree that without hearing from the seller, we wouldn’t know if a possible delayed payment issue caused him to go with another buyer.

... Not sure if you can leave bad feedback as you weren't technically the purchaser but you may be able to. Low post count and a negative feedback is detrimental to being able to sell on the forum.
...

I don't think you are supposed to leave negative feedback unless the deal is completed. In this case no money was lost.

It stinks but seller can sell to whoever they want. I've had it happen to me. Just move on.
That's a forum rule - to be followed here - not the law or social custom. In the World, a promise for a promise is called a "contract. " Break your promise at your peril. Without such rules, business cannot be done.

And that's the thing. This is not a business forum. We are guests here, and need to follow Spark's rules.

When I was a new member, I went the extra mile to insure that the buyer was satisfied. I remember a request from an upstanding member, for me to send the knife before payment was made.
Granted the knife discussed is more expensive than the one in that request, but the sellers behavior is a bit smarmy.

The seller would be wise to reply to this thread, if he expects to selll many knives on this forum.
