Attention BF2020 Away We Go - Books are closed

Had to postpone due to unforeseen financial issues, hopefully still open in a week or two as I’d still like to order
The deal is that Mike has a specific number he has based his discussions with Viper with. The order on his end has to happen very soon. I don't think there are two weeks to dawdle regardless of circumstance. Generally speaking with forum knives, you pay up front to help Mike (the vendor) cover costs and they are substantial. This is not a for profit deal.

Link will be active until my contracted quantity is exhausted

Read that after I posted above. But it doesn't change how I feel about it. Basically if I lost my job tomorrow, I would still buy "because I made a commitment".

I'll be doing a group-buy, Mike - as discussed on the phone..!

Will be 10 knives altogether...........just need to collect a wee bit more money before I personally shell out well over a grand :D Hope that's ok, sir

........all done v early this morning, Mike.

There was a glitch with the postal charges, so let me know whichever way and I'll sort for you

The biggest problem I see is members not knowing that it is time to order. I know I don't visit the Traditional Forum every day and sometimes go for weeks between visits. My visits frequently revolve around buying periods or a new offering by GEC that I'm interested in. I have cut down the number of knives I have purchased this year relative to previous years which impacts forum visits. It's August and I have only purchased one new knife this year to this point unlike most years where I average about one per month.

Maybe.... a blanket email/PM to all members who previously purchased might be a useful approach for future forum knives. Medical issues come up as do vacations which might prevent you from visiting the forum. Sometimes it is simply a slow period for the forum. I know I pretty much won't visit BF with my smartphone and only rarely with my tablet. So, basically my advance knowledge of a forum knife relates to my being able to access a computer (and usually at home).

I second this. I only found out about this happening because of a guy posting a link in General, and only caught the buy link in time because this project happened to cross my mind, and I checked Traditionals for a possible update, only to find it a day late.

There's no easy way to send blanket messages to members that have purchased in the past. I'm not going to do it, maybe @knarfeng Frank feels differently.

If you saw any of the polls or discussion threads it's easy enough to watch a thread and get an alert or an email alert. On Monday 8/10 Mike posted this in the count thread:
"OK, for those that committed the order process is now open."
Let's all remember that the process was fast this year, for many reasons, including the factory needing a count before the factory closed for vacation.

That said, there's enough work that already goes into this project every year to make all those involved question whether it's even worth the bother.

We're lucky that Mike was gracious enough to step up this year, with what's going on in the world.

There is updated info on Mikes post re: ordering, BF2020 Away We Go - Link is Live - Time to Order!
New information 8/12/20: 1) You did not need to commit to the "Count" thread in order to place an order.
New information 8/13/20: The order is cut with Viper. But if you have not picked yours up yet - no worries. Pick them up as you can. We contracted for the full 350 that was committed in the "Count" thread. I have worked it out with the factory to convert any left over when the time comes to amboyna burl and I will sell them via the store with the standard etch.

If I don't read my supermarket flyer, and take advantage of the 10.95 a pound Porterhouse deal, that's nobody's fault but mine.

I didn't even see any of the poll threads other than the "count thread" this year. I wrote off the whole idea of a 2020 forum knife completely and it was only chance that I even noticed the count thread at all. You're right; the process was very quick this year. Most know the general preferences of the membership and many of the polls like we had last year just didn't seem necessary other than to make people feel they were participating in the process.

Yes, I was very pleased that Mike stepped in and hosted the forum knife again this year. I'm looking forward to the knife later this year.

On the notification thing.... maybe a thread specific to "I bought one" might organize most of the past purchasers into one thread without a lot of comments in between.??

Oh yeah I'm totally thankful of Mike for stepping up and making this happen. I'm not blaming him for anything, I think it's gone very smoothly because of his efforts. I'm just saying that what we've discussed is a thing; however, I don't have a better solution than just "members get better at checking", including myself.

I frequent the becker forum the most and there was a post about the polls there. If someone didnt take the liberty of doing that i wouldnt have ever known. I think all the subforums should have done the same. But its not mikes responsibility, hes doing enough. A “resident “ at their subforum should have posted about it.

Someone could start a blade forum knife picture thread. Most previous buyers will post in it and thus be watching it. That would be a good thread for blade forum knife notifications as it will alert the people most likely to buy again.

Wasn't origonally planning to grab one of these but seeing that some people are pulling out and Mike is having trouble hitting his numbers i decied to jump in. I can say though that I'm excited about getting my first BF knife and gives me the chance to check out viper knives. Huge thanks to Mike for putting in all the effort on this run.

Purchase link is still active as of 5 min before this post in case anyone is wondering if orders can still be placed.

Thank you knifeswapper knifeswapper for stepping in and doing all of the dirty work to make a BF knife available this year.

- without wishing to sound whatever, this is why you’re such a good mod

I'm onboard and an Oxblood (seemed fitting) leather pocket slip too. Can't wait to see this. Thanks Mike!

I just think that if anyone has made a pledge to buy a knife, their basic duty should be to check this Forum everyday for a minute or two for developments. To say that you don't come here very often, you don't log in for weeks on end, or your knife buying is at a standstill is not relevant . If you pledged to buy you should buy or if you suddenly cannot you should say so, either way it's your responsibility to follow events closely.
