My vote is for giraffe. If it ends up amboyna I'm good with that. I'm in for 2 regardless.

I am in for one, probably two since I regret not doubling up every year! Also went with Amboyna since I already have a couple of the Lionsteel's in Rams horn.

Not a single bad choice in the bunch - any one of them will make a fine choice for our forum knife. I am in regardless of what the majority decides.

I am still sticking with Rams Horn. It has been suggested that a vote for Rams Horn is a sign of disrespect for Mike and all the work that he is putting in for us. With respect, I disagree - Mike has stated that he is fond of the material but that it has brought complications in the past. That is likely due to folks being unhappy with the example that they received, having been previously awed by some of the wildly awesome examples posted on the internet. It is easy enough to add a disclaimer and though I am sure there is always going to be a small group of folks that ignore said disclaimer, it is something that Mike can simply point out rather than engaging in any sort of back and forth wrangling.

Another point, also with respect - if Rams Horn is to be too contentious for Mike, he could have simply left it off the list. Mike is one of my favorite dealers and in my experience, he has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind. If he doesn't want Rams Horn to be an option, it is as simple as saying that it's too much trouble and be done with it. He has not said that - yet.

Now that I have that out of the way, I will post some of the Rams Horn that has passed through my hands - not a bad one in the lot.

Voted Juniper.

No bad choices here and I'm up for one whatever the slab, except perhaps Giraffe. I'm unconvinced about ethical harvesting as poaching is rife and corruption in Africa. Also, what COLOUR would the Giraffe Bone be? Undyed or? Too many aspects with that one for me.

Another point, with regards to giraffe bone - I have never seen any giraffe bone that is uniform in appearance. In other words, one would be potentially setting themselves up for the same situation that is drawing complaints towards the Rams Horn.

I have never seen bad giraffe bone, and if you look at the Northwoods knives that used it, every single one is a stunner.

My understanding is that horn can shrink and move, which is why we have been warned away from it. —— and don’t forget the dermastid beetles.

I voted for Juniper handles, they are aesthetically pleasing.

Junipers grow on dry ground, they are quite resilient to what Mother Nature dishes out, hardly ever budge, they are in for the long haul, very much like a good friend. Plus, they grow in Italy. A win-win.

I was curious what the current leading wood choice -- Amboyna -- would look like on a Viper Swayback, so I hacked together this appallingly low-rent mock-up using the clone stamp tool in my free photo editing software and a photo from Mike's shop. :D

As bad as it is, it's enough to show me how great that wood could look on this knife, so I figured it couldn't hurt to share it.

Great job. I voted for this wood. I’m in for sure if
