Yup - that's a good way to describe it. I thought it would feel beefier/chunkier than the FK2, but it really doesn't. It's more sleekerer.Right? It feels more sleek to me.
Irregardless, you have the most best grasp on the language.Yup - that's a good way to describe it. I thought it would feel beefier/chunkier than the FK2, but it really doesn't. It's more sleekerer.
Doesn't that contravene the intent of the knife though? It is a BASIC FK, a knife that will perform without all the window dressing. I thought the idea was to keep cost down and have more time to produce more knives to get them into the hands of the throngs who want them.Nathan probably doesn't want to hear (or read) this...
But with ~800 to ~900 D3V Basic5's (B5) in the planning stage for an upcoming production run... I think the Basic5 would be an ideal candidate for him to apply his Signature treatment to as he did with the Basic SDFK.
A Basic5 with a nice swedge, skeletonized tang and thumb jimping would be "quite desirable" and add even further fuel to the flames of his excessively brisk Friday Sales.![]()
Nathan probably doesn't want to hear (or read) this...

Fair enough. I appreciate your point of view and response. That why Nathan doesn't want to hear it...
All of what you say is true and those same thoughts and ideas could more or less be applied to the BASIC SDFK...
However, Nathan did decide to offer a Signature SDFK variant and it stands to reason that the changes to the B5 pattern and the way it would flow through the CPK shop would most likely also follow along in a similar manner to that of the Sig. SDFK which was produced along with the Basic SDFK?
If Nathan produced each of the patterns in 1/4" increments, you lot would complain why they weren't offered in 1/8" increments.
There is no hope for you...none.![]()
I think he's planning on an adjustable fixed blade that you can lock in place with a blade length anywhere from 2.5" to 25".I've always been in favor of Nathan building a new ~6" FK3!![]()

Just a note that the BFK is perfectly balanced as is. The relatively small swedge wouldn't need much holes in the tang to compensate (the SSDFK tang holes are already quite small).
Also, I am wondering how the new hollow ground BFK is balanced. Hoping one of the new users will tell us soon.
And besides, how about we get the Shiv v2 and folder first ?![]()
