BHQ Excl. Lum Tanto?

There were no pre-orders. This was a flash release. Either you were available or you missed it.

Ok, I knew there was a reason I missed it! Was it 15minutes or 2 hours? I think I forgot that was the day and just got busy doing something else. I really can’t afford to miss out on the superblue calypso jr. though, unless it is just a unicorn!

Don’t worry about that one, it will come right back to where it was before you opened it. Same has happened to me on every ti Millie I’ve tried to make 1% “better.”

Never a great idea to mess around with such things when drinking beer, sipping some wine or whatever you fancy ;) Thank you for the encouragement and I'm sure that when I reattempt when during the daylight and more sober, I'll manage to tame that beast again.

The good news is that during the walk with the dog this eve, I pocketed the Lum-Tanto and it really grew on me even but I'll be looking for some deeper pocket carry Ti clips instead. Again, my recommendation would be to keep these unless you ended up with a real turd!

Sounds like I really missed out, everybody seems to like the blade size! I think partly why I didn’t try too hard was in a post a few months ago Sal mentioned that G-10 was imported at some expense into Japan from the US, and I thought if I’m gonna buy a knife in g10 it should be made in Golden, if I’m gonna buy a Seki made steel then I want a handle they produce over there, so the price stays closer to the actual value of the materials. If it had been titanium it would have been worth it for me! I think the endura Ti in vg -10 Damascus sells for about $200!

That's the great thing about Spyderco as they try very hard to offer their customers copious options which not only serves their own business interests but also provides their customers with good selections in a tight pricing cluster

Yeah, it’s nice to know that if I could get about $200 grand I could order my own exclusive , but I wouldn’t trust myself to pick the right color to sell them out right away! At least I would like it!

I just wanted to throw an update up. I got some time to fine tune it this morning and it’s really smooth now.
I worked on the centering (without disassembly), but just with the normal technique of loosening the screws and wedging the blade with cardboard. After tightening them back down, it’s not perfect, but I was able to get it to where I’m not worried about scratching the liners anymore. It’s just a shade off. I had to really be patient and tighten each screw slightly and evenly multiple times.

At this point, I’m loving it!

The one I got ended up not being too bad. Definitely off center and almost touching, but not touching the right liner. It was still fairly smooth and lock up was good. If the blade was warped at all, I couldn't detect it. But I ended up moving it along to a new home today so I could flip the cash into one of those KW CF S90V Milis. I just know I'll be happier with that.

Judging from the pictures there is very little room from the blade to the liners on both sides so even something very slightly off center will be very noticeable compared to many other designes . So unless it is touching the liners I don't really see the huge issue. Touching is a no go, but otherwise I'd be fine with it. I couldn't really get around the jade g10 on this model so I didn't get one.. Black micarta and it would have been a beauty.

I just posted this in response to the sell-off thread on GKD, but thought to provide another first impression here too:
I finally got mine today, after a weekend and then snow storm delay. I am very happy to report mine is great! It has none of the issues that some others have reported. As well-centered as most liner lock blades (lock bar pressure in the closed position moves it slightly off center, but only noticeable if you look closely), no blade play in open or closed position, solid lock-up, no lock stick, opens and closes smoothly, beautiful grind, everything seems solidly put together. After waiting years for Spyderco to do a run of these, I am very pleased with the result!

I'm very pleased to hear that others are having great experiences, even if I'm bummed about mine. Maybe I'll end up with a good one eventually.

Bummed out that BHQ preferred method of shipping to Canada is not trackable. I have to use my imagination I guess.

Seems that quite a few snatched them up just to flip judging by the amount available on the exchange

There has got to be a better way to make a buck lol what are they gonna make 20 bucks unless they sit on them for a long time

I picked up one to go with my black g-10 original, got lucky to get one in the bubble wrap, a little off center and stiff to open. Hope a few treaks will make it usable. Being a limited run with a lot of defects I'm not going to get rich but it should have value in a couple of years.

Ahh, ... good for you..., I guess.

There was a time, when knives were bought to be actually used.

Yes yes, I know; totally alien concept.

Why did some have bubble wrap and some had regular plastic bags? what are the pros and cons?

I'm thinking of trade value, rather then driving off the lot with a new car, as we all know you are never making money in knives, you would be lucky to break even. At least it will off set those that I use.

I doubt the bubble wrap has anything to do with anything. Someone posted that he got a good one and a bad one, and the good one was in bubble wrap and the other in a plastic bag. Then concluded that there was a connection. I got a great one in a plain bag, and I am not aware of any REAL evidence of an association, so I would not worry about it.
