Bic Quick Dry Trick

Nice video. Now I have a use for one of my match cases. To keep a dry piece of cloth in.

Alright, I know this is a mega thread necro, but this thread was linked through another recently necro'd firestarting thread.

Is this video up anywhere else? Both posted links are done for. Otherwise, what's the general idea going on here? I always carry a bic or two in the woods for convenience(along with a couple of other methods), so this could come in handy. Thanks fellas.

As I recall you run the wheel of the bic on your pants to dry it out. Hopefully it doesn't fire off and catch you pants on fire.

Sorry, I had to take that video down when I switched Youtube accounts.

Essentially, you take the childproof sheild of the lighter and clean a section of the wheel off with your fingernail, sock, shirt, whatever.... BIC lighters are totally sealed from the elements. The problem lies in all the carbon crud that builds up on the striking wheel. It holds the moisture in. Scrape the crud off and the lighter is fine.

Don't do the rolling on the pants thing... that wastes fuel, flint and can destroy your lighter if you do it to fast.

Those peanut lighters are really cool.

Ahh cool, thanks Rick. Sucks for me though, I always pop the child proof things off when I get em to make em easier to flick:o. I spose it could always be done with a knife tip or SAK awl or something if you really needed it.

That doesn't suck... that's the idea... take it off and use your fingernail to clean it. The sheild is useless. Perhaps I worded it wrong, sorry.

Ahh ok, understood. I thought you meant to pop the shield off and use it to scrape the wheel clean. My bad, totally read it wrong:o
