Went down to Big Bend last weekend. It is a huge park. These pics are in the Chisos Mountains, mostly along the South rim.

It seems like you can see forever from up there.

The Chisos are a very dangerous place... as you can see (not really).

Some of the DANGEROUS wildlife... it's almost like a petting zoo... they have absolutely no fear of man. These pictures were taken at 10-20 feet.

View from "the window" a gap in the mountains formed by a water pour-off.

Sign tells about a fire that raged through this area about 20 years ago. Nature has taken the area back. The only real evidence of a fire today is some charred tree stumps.

These pictures do no justice to the natural rugged beauty of this park. I highly recommend it to any of you.

Great Photos of a fantastic place.

Big bend has it all; the mountains, the dessert, and of course the river.

Thanks for sharing.

Great pictures. I visited the Chisos mountains many years ago but I stayed at the Lodge. :o I'd have to carry everything for my wife and three kids if I primitive camped like you.

yeah... i hear ya. I took my GF and had to haul most the water, food, plus tent, food, etc... I felt like a pack mule.

I have wanted to visit there for a long time. Thanks for sharing the nice pictures.

A friend who was living in Texas a while back told me about the park. He invited me down several times but I never got around to going. Now he's moved and I missed an easy chance to check that place out.:( Thanks for rubbing it in!;)

Beautiful pics! I'm hoping to head down there someday on a February vacation or Spring Break.

By the way, what were the temps during the day and in the night? I know that in the summer it can get brutal. How about in the winter?

The temps were great. It was close to freezing at night, and in the 60's during the daytime. Being in the desert, the temps fall very rapidly after sunset.

Here is a link to current weather conditions in the park. http://www.nps.gov/bibe/upload/DAILYREPORT.pdf It does get pretty rough in the summer time... close to 120 down by the river... quite a bit cooler in the mountains.

Right now is a good time to go. Nice weather... even in the desert. Also not very crowded. Spring break gets pretty crowded from what I hear.

Looks like some pretty spectacular vistas. Big Bend is definitely on my life list.
