Well, this is yet another time that I should have stayed away from the show. Walked away with waay too much on my credit card.

The biggest feller was an AR upper and lower kit, to finish off the lower I got a couple of weeks ago. 18" with rifle length gas. Just got some irons for it today, it's looking veeery handsome. :D I think it'll be very nice to have around camp next time.

I also got some new packs. I got the first one for about $5, russian gas mask bags. They actually still contain some direction in russian, and some kind of white powder (labeled in russian). Wondering if it's iodide or something. Anyway, ought to make a decent little possibles bag.
It's the little brown one in the above picture.
Poor pic of powder bottle:

Then the much nicer pack- a copy, I think, of an Eagle Industries butt pack. It's pretty darn large, with three large side pockets. Almost resembles a mini alice pack. Marked at $25 but got it for $20 :D. What sold me was the fact that the side pockets looked about perfect for a nalgene. I was right! It holds more than enough for a summer overnight, maybe not in winter just because I can't fit a pad or proper blanket in/on it. Just an example of what it will hold (and the main compartment is less than half full!). Sorry these came out so dark:

Poncho takes up 3/4 of side pocket, 'loose' gear takes up 1/2 of front. First aid kit in top exterior pocket, pic plastic bundle and pot in main compartment (1/3 full).

Spent waaaaay too much money this week. :foot: Don't tell my wife.. seriously.

Nice stuff. I'd have eaten that pack up as well for $20.

What kind of iron sights did you get?

Thanks gents-

The irons are Yankee Hill. I like em so far. But I'm having a hell of a time with the rear site. I can't figure out what type of head is on the screws, tried every hex key in the house to no avail. Even attempted delicate pliers. So the screws are firm, but there's front-to-back wiggle on the site. And there's not a little side plate that gets tightened onto the side of the rail, like I'd expect. Very cornfused...

Very nice Haul indeed bro! Rifle looks great! How did the build go??

Cool Eagle type pack. Slap a shoulder strap on that is a great bag. Ive been wanting to do one like Estelas old one for awhile......

Russian mystery powder.....Man, thats scary! Anthrax? Heroin? Iodine? Makes ya think......:D

Thanks Jake, build went just fine! It was my first of course, but only took about an hour or less I'd say. Lots of fun!

I'll take some photos in a second of the screws/mount...

Here we go:

Could it be metric? Definitely look "hex". All the YHM I've dealt with have always been standard metric.

Damn I hope not, that means it's some odd in-between size. 2 is too small, 2.5 is too large. Can you even easily get a 2.25? Why would they choose such an odd size?

Man, that is weird.

So nothing standard fits either?

When my son takes his nap, I will get one of mine and check it. I have one of the flip ups so I realize we may be talking apples to oranges, but I'll check. Provided he goes to sleep...

Thats a good looking setup you got there. I'm jealous of the AR upper, I can't seem to find one or at least one for a decent price.

Thanks man, I'd appreciate it! Yeah, nothing standard works. By 1/64 of an inch, one is too big and one too small.

I found the sight on the YHM site but it doesn't say anything about bolt size of course.

It says that would mount a sling swivel stud...there's no way I would put that kind of tension on it attached like that to the upper.

Haha, I saw that too. Don't think I'll be using my sight as a sling point any time soon.

Thanks man, you should check out Double Star/J&T. Good stuff, they had at least two dozen uppers left at the show.

Slight aside: I don't think I gave enough credit to this little gasmask bag, I actually might like it as much if not more than the nicer pack. It's got both a built in should and waist strap. Very comfy, plenty of room.

Contents in this pic:
-Guyot stainless bottle, nestled stainless mug
-GI-type poncho
-Firekit, plus match case and Army firesteel
-Cordage of various sorts
-Large first aid kit
-Possible sack (bandanna, pipe and tobacco, hand warmer, spork, duct tape, etc.)
-Fiskars folding saw
-Swiss Army flashlight
-Compass
-Harmonica

And there's still room on the top for a sandwich or two! Great daybag.

I'll take the Eagle copy off ya for $25 then...:D

- I'm still trying on the nap for the boy...If not I'll check when the wife gets home and can keep his attention.

you freggin americans, Im lucky to get away with a 10 shot .22, let along a 30rnd 5.56 shooter!:D

Spooky - on my YHM flip-ups (I checked at least two) a 7/64 standard allen wrench is what fit. It didn't seem like it wanted to at first but a slight wiggle with the wrench in the bolt and it dropped right in.

Good luck, let me know.

Yup, betcha that's it. I've got a 3/32 that's too small and a 1/8" that too big. I'll have to head to the hardware store tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for all the hassle on that man!

I hope that when it's tight enough this thing locks in. Lots of front-to-back play right now.

Mine doesn't move at all (except when I flip it up :D) when it's locked down.

Once you have it set you may want to pick up Locktite for it as well.

Glad to help!

Sorry man, I had to run out for a bit......Looks like it is 7/64. I know some gunsmithing screws are odd sizes, but pretty standard in firearms, if that makes sense....

Anyways, they look like good sights, as long as tightening them eliminates the wiggle. Ive used loctite on some of them to keep em tightly mounted. The mounting bracket looks normal to me.
