"Big" Folders- what do you use them for?

The big knives will do what the little ones can, and can cut for a longer length of time because of there being more of an edge to use. And I like my knives to fill up my hand...

I could probably get by fine with a 2.5" blade but I find a 3.5-4" for EDC suits me very well. I also find that my Cold Steel Rajah II is a pretty handy camp knife if I don't feel like strapping on a fixed blade. And I just ordered an XL Voyager clip point about 10 minuets ago.

And they're just cool. :D

I typically carry a Recon 1 tanto when I'm hiking and a SAK (Trailmaster M3 one hand) around town. So for me size only matters when I'm out hiking.

.Well, whip either out unexpectedly on a date and they're either going to scream or you'll have a very interesting night.
The spoonful of fruity pebbles I was eating said thanks for saving them.

Water melon , meat , tall grass and feeling badass !
3" is plenty for a work knife for what i do .
But i like a a bigger knife for camping .

Everything. My Lion Steel SR-1A is great at slicing cheese. And I am great at cutting cheese for that matter...

Honestly, I want the extra blade for food prep. I know most of you probably aren't in that boat, but I prep a lot of my own food on the move, and that requires a multi-purpose tool (my knife) of which it is fairly irritating to have a blade under 4-5". Ever tried to cut up an apple or a tomato with a 2.5" blade? How about getting the peanut butter out of the bottom of a jar with that dinky thing? Or cut a piece of (good, hard, crusty) bread? It happens often enough to affect the size of knife I carry. The small ones get left in a drawer.

Big folders for big jobs. I run a manufacturing facility, and I'm very hands on. Also live in a rural area and spend a lot of time outside. If I know a fixed blade is needed then that's what I'll have. Normal day to day stuff is usually handled with a larger folder. I've carried a fixed blade on occasion, but with a pistol, flashlight, and a phone, I run out of belt space for one. A big folder is just handy to have in my pocket.

My largest folder is 3.5 inches. Any bigger and it may attract the wrong attention. Especially with my tactical taste in knives haha. Between 3 and 3.5 means a good cutting edge but not being too large.

Everything that you can do with a smaller knife and more.

Besides, someone already quoted Arnold and gave the "big paws" explanation. Not sure theres much left to add.

A big folder is also better for defense than a small one is.

maybe, but if all one knows how to do is cut bread and spread butter with a knife, like myself, than having a big knife against a lunatic with a smaller knife doesn't do much good. one has to know how to defend with a knife before it becomes valuable, otherwise running can be a better choice. :p
