"Big" Folders- what do you use them for?

These are my reasons, in no particular order:

-Because I like them and feel like carrying them from time to time.
-I've got big hands and like full size handles.
-I do a fair bit of cooking with my folders.
-Because of my country's crappy gun laws, SD is one of the roles my EDC knife might have to fullfill.

Because I'm a felon and can't own a gun.

I carried large blades specifically for food prep, we didnt have a kitchen at my office. OH and also big blades are cool...that too.

I found my 5.5 inch blade is a great cake cutter.

holy.....can you tell me what knife that is? I really like the way that looks!

Oh and for the topic, I use bigger folders simply because they have better grip for me, I hate having fingers dangling. Only knife that gets a pass is the Peanut.

My main concern is comfort and how much I like using a knife when choosing what to carry. For me, that means big knives with big handles. Also, due to the unfortunate state of NY's gun laws, I can't get a pistol permit due to being on anxiety medication for an anxiety induced seizure disorder. So as much as I hate to admit it, defensive use is a secondary concern sometimes.

TX180SXHere is a copy of my post from 2005 ,when I got the knife

...if you have big pockets that is!

Here are two pics of my Gene Anderson "Madman Knife". That's what I'm calling it anyway. (see story below)

13" overall
5.25" ATS-34 blade
Acrylic pearl handle

Here's the story:
Gene took a custom order from a man on the east coast , all done by email mind you. The customer supplied the specs, Gene made the blade ,received payment, and sent the knife to it's new home.
Three days later the new owners "Mom" called and told Gene the knife needed to be returned and monies refunded. Gene explained this was a "Custom" knife of an unusual size and would be difficult to resell. The woman then went on to explain her son, the owner, had just been released from a mental institution the previous week and was not allowed sharp objects. Not needing a trip east to give his expert opinion on " Exhibit A", Gene prudently agreed.
I had seen this knife about 8 months ago at Genes and was finally made an offer I could not refuse. I took it to work and needless to say "the boys", mechanics all, were impressed with the mass. Some of the more savvy fellas were quite impressed with the workmanship which is always fantastic. I also took in a couple pound cakes for break time, which the long blade easily sliced up with one pass. Quashed the "whadda ya need that for" question post haste!
By the way, I wear an XL glove.

I like large size pocket jewelry... ZT0350OR, Endura 4, AGR wharnecliffe sowbelly (you gotta try one of these slip joints they're big well made knives), GEC #23 too

To cut things. I carry big folders because I can and because I like to. That's all that matters

Is a 4 inch knife really a big knife?Who decides what is a big knife and what is a small knife? How big are the knives in your kitchen? When you have something large to cut or and extended amount of cutting to do, then a larger knife is a necessity in my book. What do you use your knife for?Is it a tool or a toy?

majority probably only needs a case texas jack but the "big folder" fills the inner weekend warrior for a person. :p
